If your mind keeps going back to something you said or something someone else said,
Replaying it,
Trying to get it right,
Trying to understand it,
Then this is for you.
You're here and then suddenly you're back in it,
Running through it again,
Trying to land somewhere that finally feels settled because it can feel like if you just stay with it long enough,
You'll figure it out.
The right response,
The right meaning,
The right ending,
But instead it keeps looping back and something in you keeps going back.
Not because it needs to be solved,
But because it's uncomfortable to leave it alone.
It's like an itch,
Subtle,
But just enough to pull your attention and the moment you notice it,
There's an urge to scratch it,
To go back,
To think it through,
To make it settle,
And for a moment it can feel like it helps,
But then it comes back,
Sometimes stronger,
Sometimes louder,
And now you're more aware of it than before.
What if the thought isn't the problem?
What if the urge to fix it is,
And right now you don't have to follow it,
So instead of going back,
See if you can notice the urge,
Not the thought,
To reenter,
To keep thinking,
To resolve it,
To keep scratching at it,
And this time don't move,
Let the urge be there without acting on it,
Like noticing the itch and not scratching it,
And watch what it does when you don't respond.
Next,
Bring your attention gently into your body,
Your breath,
Your chest,
The palms of your hands.
Something here within you is steady,
Even if your thoughts aren't.
You don't have to leave yourself to find relief,
You can stay,
And now we're not going to resolve the thought,
We're not going to follow it,
We're not going to fix it,
We're going to let it be without attending to it,
Without scratching the itch.
Next,
If a thought arises,
Notice it,
If the urge returns,
Notice that too,
And instead of engaging,
Simply stay.
You might quietly ask yourself,
As you do,
What happens when I don't scratch it?
And as you come back,
Notice it didn't settle,
You just stopped scratching.
May your mind,
Body,
And spirit be abundant with peace,
Presence,
Today,
And every day.
Until next time,
Namaste.
