Welcome to this Metta meditation,
A practice of loving-kindness and compassion.
Through this practice,
We'll cultivate feelings of goodwill,
Both for ourselves and for others.
Find a quiet space,
Take a comfortable seat,
And let's embark on this journey of spreading love and positive energy.
Close your eyes gently and take a few deep breaths,
Allowing yourself to settle into the present moment.
Feel the support of the ground beneath you and the gentle rise and fall of your breath.
Begin by bringing your awareness to yourself,
Taking a slow inhale,
And as you exhale,
Silently say to yourself,
May I be happy,
May I be healthy,
May I be safe,
May I live with ease.
Imagine a warm,
Radiant light enveloping you,
Like a cocoon of pure,
Unconditional love.
Feel the words you just said sinking into your being,
Allowing for any sensations of comfort,
Warmth,
Or peace to arise.
Now,
Bring to mind someone you deeply care about.
It could be a family member,
A friend,
A mentor,
Or a pet.
Visualize them clearly in your mind's eye.
As you inhale and exhale,
Silently say,
May you be happy,
May you be healthy,
May you be safe,
May you live with ease.
Imagine the same warm,
Radiant light surrounding this person.
Picture them smiling,
Radiating happiness and contentment.
Feel your heart expanding with love and compassion towards them.
Now think of someone you have neutral feelings towards.
This could be a co-worker,
An acquaintance,
Or someone you encounter regularly.
Visualize them,
And as you breathe,
Silently say,
May you be happy,
May you be healthy,
May you be safe,
May you live with ease.
Let the warm light of loving kindness embrace this person.
Recognize their humanity and their wishes for happiness and fulfillment,
Just like yours.
Think of someone you may have conflicts or difficulties with.
Approach this step gently,
Without forcing.
Visualize them,
And with your breath,
Say,
May you be happy,
May you be healthy,
May you be safe,
May you live with ease.
Allow the radiant light to envelope this person.
In this act of extending loving kindness,
You are not condoning actions,
But acknowledging their shared humanity and the possibility of transformation.
Now expand your awareness to encompass all living beings,
Near and far.
Picture the earth,
A planet filled with countless beings seeking happiness and freedom from suffering.
With each breath,
Repeat,
May all beings be happy,
May all beings be healthy,
May all beings be safe,
May all beings live with ease.
Imagine a wave of loving energy rippling from your heart,
Touching every corner of the world,
Spreading goodwill,
Compassion,
And joy.
Take a few deep breaths,
Feeling the loving energy you have cultivated within and around you.
Whenever you are ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Carry this feeling of loving kindness with you throughout your day,
Letting it guide your thoughts,
Words,
And actions towards yourself and all living beings.
Remember,
Loving kindness is a practice,
And like all practices,
It deepens over time.
Each time you engage in this meditation,
You are planting seeds of love and compassion that will undoubtedly grow and flourish.
