from a young age I did not do moderation with alcohol or drugs. I’ve been in AA since 1981. In my grief groups I found a few people that turned to drinking and Xanax to numb the pain. One widow reached out to me and said she found herself drinking too much as a result of the pain from her husband’s death.I agree with you. You have to be so careful around numbing feelings.

i wanted to add what Jesus said. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" -
"Yoke" metaphor:
A yoke is a wooden frame used to connect two animals for work, so Jesus is using this metaphor to represent following him and learning from him
