The Healing Power Of Humor: My Costa Rica Adventure
by Tracy McCree
This talk, "Healing Through Humor," reflects on how humor has been a constant guiding force in my life and a way I express my light. Through my own healing journey, I've come to realize that I’ve always been a healer—by shining my light and sharing laughter. In this funny and unforgettable story, I recount my Costa Rican ATV adventure with both new and old friends from a retreat. The experience is filled with fun, laughter, near-death moments, and a visit to a baby waterfall. Leading the way on this wild ride was our smiling and zany tour guide, Zee Da Dee Dee!

Hello and welcome.
My name is Tracy McCree.
And in addition to me being a intuitive energy healer,
A certified masters of meditation teacher with David G.
And now,
Um,
I've gone deeper still,
Which means I'm able to,
Um,
Give people their nakshatra birth star mantra.
So very cool stuff.
But in addition to that,
Since I was very young,
I,
And I won't even say I'm a self-proclaimed comedian.
I,
When I was,
This is how I found out it was funny,
True story.
So,
Um,
In the eighth grade we got yearbooks.
It wasn't like,
Obviously when you're in high school,
But you know,
Junior high going into high school.
And so we got this and,
You know,
We're passing it around to not just our class,
But like all of our different classmates.
And I got mine back at the end of the day.
And I'm not kidding you.
Every single person wrote something to the effect of,
You are the funniest person I've ever met.
I wouldn't have made it through junior high without you.
Yeah.
It was called junior high back then,
Not middle school,
Whatever.
Don't make fun of me.
Tell them my age.
Anyway,
Every single comment was,
You're so funny.
You're the funniest person I've ever met.
And I'm again,
Not kidding you.
I sat there,
I closed the book and I was like,
Huh,
I guess I'm funny.
So not self-proclaimed.
I actually found out in eighth grade that I'm funny.
So I it's,
It's a part of the light of my soul.
It's how I express joy.
It's it's,
Um,
Before I knew I was a healer,
It's one of the ways that I was a healer.
So now I'm able to,
Um,
Help people like remove,
You know,
Stuck energy within their body using intuition.
I also have studied IFS,
Which is internal family systems.
Anyway,
Giving you kind of an overview.
But humor has always been this healing gift and healing light and presence within my life.
So I thought I would come on,
I have some meditations on here,
But I thought I'd come on and just tell you a funny story that happened when I was in Costa Rica,
I went to support my teacher on a retreat and it was like the second morning.
So I'm sitting there,
Beautiful Costa Rica,
I'm on a retreat.
There's about,
I don't know,
Maybe 20 people in our group and I'm assisting my teacher.
And,
Um,
I was there with one of my best friends and I knew some other people there anyway,
Sitting at the table.
And then you,
You quickly get to know other people that are on the retreat.
So I met this person and I'm going to call her S because I won't name names.
And she ran over and I was sitting with my best,
One of my best friends.
I'm going to call him A and another person call her D.
So you don't have to remember this so far.
It's just letters of the alphabet,
Right?
Just,
That's all,
Just go with that.
So S runs over,
She's like,
Hey,
Do you guys want to go on a,
An ATV tour?
And inside I'm thinking,
Oh no,
But you know,
You're on vacation.
The other two people seem like they wanted to,
It was this person's birthday coming up and I'm like,
All right,
So how bad could it be?
Okay.
So we go,
Um,
It's the day of the tour.
We,
We go out,
They have the ATVs,
Like you walk down the stairs of the place.
There they are.
And part of the thing was we were going to go riding through the mountains,
Mountainous regions,
If you know,
Costa Rica,
If not take a look at pictures.
Ride up the mountains and go to a waterfall.
That's what they told us.
Okay,
Cool.
So we go,
There is trying to think there were four groups of us.
So S gets on one of the ATVs with one of the tour guides.
He tells us his name is Zeta Deet Deet Deet.
That's literally what he said.
And I'm like,
Huh?
And he's like Zeta Deet Deet.
And I was like,
Okay.
So the whole tour,
I'm calling him Zeta Deet Deet.
No idea what his true name was,
But that's what it sounded like.
So I'm like,
Cool Zeta Deet Deet.
So S gets on with him.
He gives us basically no instructions.
And he says,
Yeah,
This is how you do the gas.
And he's like,
Just showing us general stuff.
We all get on,
We all put our helmets on.
And so it's me,
A,
D and S is on with the tour guide Zeta Deet Deet.
So he basically just tells us we're going to ride a little bit through town.
And then we're going to start going up the mountain to the waterfall.
And then we'll see the waterfall come back.
Cool.
All he tells us.
And he's like,
What I want you to do is just stay in line.
So we just go one after the other.
So he starts out,
We follow him.
We go through town.
Mind you,
I don't know if you've ever been to Costa Rica.
And the roads are a little bit,
A little bit bumpy.
And when I say a little bit,
A lot of bit.
So anyway,
Cool for an ATV we're going.
So we're,
We're going down the road again.
He gives us no instructions.
So we're just,
We're turning,
We're going up.
Going through town was,
Was a little bit hectic,
Crazy,
Chaotic.
So I'm not going to lie to you.
Every one of us,
Me,
A,
S,
Everyone,
D,
We almost died.
So on this first part,
D is following A and she's going all of a sudden he looks in his rear view mirror,
A Mack truck is coming and she,
He's going to see her,
He thinks he's going to see her die.
Nope.
She zooms in.
So she saves her life.
We get in.
So now we start going up the mountain.
Don't know if any of you have ever used an ATV,
But do not go slow going up a mountain,
You will die.
So that's how I almost died.
So I'm going up and I'm kind of going slow cause I'm nervous and I'm going in and out of these like,
You know,
Pits in the,
In the road almost like fell over and the ATV will fall on you.
So I'm like freaking out and I go over and the tour guide,
His name is Zayda Dede is on with S and she's the one who got us to go on this tour.
So I ride up there and I'm like mad and I'm like,
Did you just see that?
Like,
I just almost fell over and S reaches out her hand and she has an accent and she's like,
Everything is fine.
And she's holding my hand and I'm like,
No,
No,
No,
It's not fine.
It's really not fine.
Everything is fine.
And of course it's fine for her because she's getting driven.
So anyway,
I'm like,
Okay,
I just keep going.
So that was almost my run in with death.
Forgot to tell you when we were riding through town,
S is out there waving,
Like,
Like she's a,
Like a goddess or like Miss America,
Like hello,
Hello.
So A and I are trying,
Like,
We can't even do it.
We can't even take our hands off of the steering wheel because if you do,
You're again going to die.
We've,
We later find out that we have no power steering,
A and I.
So total craziness.
So here we go.
We keep going on.
We're riding.
And then there's a point where I look up and in Costa Rica,
There's monkeys and I'm like monkey.
So I put my hand like up in the air,
Like just talking to myself,
Saying there's a monkey.
And then Z to deep deep pulls over and he goes,
Did you say a stop?
And I was like,
No,
I said monkey.
And he said,
Oh,
Cause I saw you put your hand up.
That means stop.
And I was like,
Oh really?
You could have told me that at the beginning,
Z to deep deep,
Didn't know that I was just pointing at a monkey.
So now we keep going,
We're going up,
We get to the point,
We get to the top of the mountain,
We pull off and he's like,
Kind of not really knowing,
Like,
He's like,
Let me take a look over here.
And then he goes off the road.
He's like,
Wait here.
So we're like,
What is going on?
So he goes,
He can't find the waterfall.
Like,
But we don't know this at that point.
So he comes up just to give you a little bit of a background about Z to deep deep.
He's one of those people you ever meet someone and they smile all the time for absolutely no reason.
They're just smiling.
So he's always happy.
Just picture.
Hello,
I'm Z to deep deep,
Right?
So he comes over and he goes,
I cannot find the waterfall.
After two of us have almost died.
So I said,
Z to deep deep,
You know,
I'm on a retreat and all,
And I do my meditation and I have a practice,
But you better find the waterfall,
Buddy.
We just rode all the way up this mountain.
I almost died.
And he's still smiling and he's like,
Hold on.
I will go try to find the waterfall.
So A tells him,
Yeah,
Why don't you go and we'll wait here.
So Z to deep deep goes speeding off and he has shoulder length,
Like kind of semi long hair flowing in the wind,
Smile,
Still going full blast.
And there he goes speeding off.
So we all,
Now there's three of us standing next to our ATV and we look at A and say,
And he goes,
Maybe I shouldn't have sent him off.
We're up on the top of a mountain with no cell phone service and we have no idea where we are and Z to deep deep just sped off.
So now we're all like,
Awesome.
Well,
All of a sudden we see him a couple minutes later,
Zooming back,
Big smile on his face,
Hair blowing in the wind,
I have found the waterfall.
So now we get back on,
We start going,
We go,
We pull off.
We're on,
It's like this very remote land.
And I guess this man owns all of this land and it's absolutely beautiful.
And he says,
Okay,
We're going to pull off here and then you have a choice.
We can either go see the waterfall.
We have to climb down into like the forest and then we'll come back up and we'll have a drink and some,
Um,
He actually took sugar cane and made a drink with the sugar cane,
The man who owned the land,
I'll call him F.
And then he's like,
And then we'll cut up some fresh pineapple.
Would you like to do that before or after?
So we're like,
Well,
Let's go see the waterfall.
So we go down.
So I'm not kidding you.
It's the stairway to heaven,
But going down.
So it's this like,
Uh,
Handmade stairs made out of like in carved into the mountain,
Part of it's like parts of trees and you,
And,
And they're not,
Of course they're misshapen,
It's not like an actual like staircase that you'd see it's,
It's manmade and it's made out of nature and we're going way down into the depths of the earth.
So I say it was like heaven because we're going down to a waterfall.
So like the waterfall of grace,
However,
We're going down into the depths of the earth on this manmade staircase.
So Zeta Deet Deet's leading the way.
There's three people and I'm with S who's like a,
Sorry,
S if you're listening and you figure this out,
But like a,
Like a princess queen who's like,
She has an accent,
Please hold my hand.
Oh,
Go slow.
Wait.
So now we get like semi lost me and S and I'm like,
S let's go like,
Hello.
I just rode up a mountain,
Almost died to see a waterfall.
Let's get down there.
We only have a certain amount of time.
Hold on.
And so we're like trying to figure out,
We finally figure it out.
We get down there and it's this little baby waterfall.
Beautiful,
But just a little baby.
It's,
It's not this like giant grand waterfall that we thought it was going to be.
So I'm already like,
Really?
I just climbed down to the depths of the earth and now I'm already thinking I got to climb back up that.
Anyway,
We get down there.
S says to me,
Oh,
Hold on.
Let me get in the water and you can take a picture of me.
I said,
S get your,
I'm not going to say the word in the water right now and hurry up because I didn't just climb down here to have no time in the waterfall,
Get your butt in there.
So she gets in,
We end up very beautiful.
We go under the waterfall,
Really beautiful.
We're swimming around.
We have some time down there.
We go back up.
Climbing up was again,
Not fun.
That was terrible.
We get up to the top.
Beautiful.
We meet this beautiful man who lives on this very beautiful,
Like acres and acres of land.
He tells the story of his family.
Just giving you the condensed version.
We spend some time with him.
He shows us some really awesome stuff.
We have a treat.
We get back on the ATVs.
So now me and a are again on these ATVs that have no power staring.
We don't know that at this point.
And we're thinking,
Why are these other people zipping around?
Like it's no problem.
Yeah.
They had power steering.
Somehow we don't,
I'm getting a blister on my hand and I can't take my hands off the steering wheel,
Like the holding it same with a,
So we're just going,
We're like,
Okay,
Don't take your hands off.
Don't even try to itch your face or move your hand.
You're going to die.
So anyway,
We're zipping here and here we're going.
And all of a sudden,
Um,
So I say to Zeta DT,
We get back on.
I said,
Zeta DT,
Can we stop on the way back and take some like pictures?
Like we're already late.
We get,
You know,
We're rushing up here.
We can't really even enjoy the scenery because we're zipping by.
Can we just stop off on some of these scenic views and take a few pics?
Yes.
With a giant smile.
So here we go.
We're zipping along.
Well,
Here we're zooming.
A is driving.
This is his turn.
Goes right off the road,
Like into some brush.
So I'm like,
Hey,
This is one of my best friends.
So he comes out and he's like,
Oh my God.
He goes up to us and she goes,
Hold his hand.
Like she did mine.
Everything is fine.
And he's like,
No.
I almost died.
Same thing.
So she's like,
Oh,
You know,
Everything's fine.
No,
No,
No.
Anyway,
We keep going.
We're riding zing,
You know,
Zinging,
Zinging along.
Well,
Again,
I can't take my hands off and here's ass waving.
It's beautiful.
Oh,
And,
And here's Zeta DT has the power steering,
Driving her.
So we're like,
Not cool.
She's waving and,
And here I am,
Cannot take my hands off.
I'm not exaggerating.
I would have died.
Like I would have went off the road.
So I'm holding so tight.
Not only do I have a blister,
We have sand flying in our eyes from the road.
And it was like dumb and dumber with like bugs,
Like coming in your eyes and what,
Like wherever hitting your face.
Can't do anything because I can't take my hands off the steering wheel.
So finally we pull off legs.
I asked Zeta DT to take a picture and I walk up over to A.
And he goes,
Do you have a bug in your eye?
And I said,
Yeah,
I couldn't take the hand,
My hands off the steering wheel,
Man.
So I couldn't wipe the bug out of my eye.
So he's dying.
And I'm like,
I really can't.
So anyway,
We get back on.
We ride the only person that almost did not die was S because she was on the thing with Zeta DT.
However,
He did have a machete.
It's a,
It's a custom.
Everyone in,
In Costa Rica has a machete.
They cut the pineapple with that.
They cut whatever you,
Whatever you need,
They got a machete.
So then we,
That was like the ongoing joke of like,
When does a kid get their machete when they're,
When they're in Costa Rica and they're like probably about three,
So that was like the ongoing joke.
So she did have a machete flying around the ATV,
But did not almost die.
So this is my Costa Rica adventure.
And it's funny because each day we would do like a chakra and whatever chakra I was doing would,
Would like correlate with what happened that day.
So on this day where we had this ATV crazy adventure with Zeta DT,
I was doing solar plexus,
So I was on the ATV and I was like,
Ah,
Like I was yelling on the way up the mountain,
It was pretty awesome.
So this is my Costa Rica ATV adventure story.
And,
Um,
I wanted to share it with you because,
Um,
Yeah,
It's part of my journey,
Obviously,
But I told the story in Costa Rica and to everyone,
Like our,
Our other retreat guests,
They were like rolling,
Laughing.
It's probably not as funny on,
Um,
On a meditation,
But so what it's,
It's,
It's still funny and you've got to hear about Zeta DT and the bug in my eye and his giant smile that he never stopped smiling.
So if you ever go to Costa Rica,
Go see Zeta DT.
The moral of the story is be you,
Have fun,
Make sure you ask if you have power steering and,
Um,
Have an awesome day.
And I'm doing this new thing called healing through humor.
And as I said,
It's always been a part of me.
It's always been a part of the light of my soul.
So as much as I do all these different things,
Intuitive energy,
Healing,
Meditation,
Teacher,
Blending internal family systems,
Humor is such an intricate part of my,
My healing journey and how I help others heal.
So no matter what I'm doing,
If I'm holding a class,
If I'm,
If I'm,
Um,
Helping a teacher at a retreat or wherever I am,
Humor follows me because it is me,
It is,
It is,
Uh,
Who I am.
So I hope you've enjoyed this story.
I hope you have an awesome day and,
Um,
Yeah,
You know,
Be funny,
Have fun,
Be joyful because you know,
What's the alternative be you have an awesome day.
I love you.
