Good morning,
Good evening,
Good night,
Whenever it is that you're tuning in to this meditation.
Today we are going to explore what it is to be resting in God's promise while we face our mortality.
Whether you're nearing end of life or simply reflecting on your mortality,
This time with me invites you to feel God's peace surrounding you now and always.
So let's take a deep breath in and out.
And deep breath in and out.
That's right.
As you take those deep breaths and as you exhale,
Allow your body to soften.
Soften the top of your head and your forehead.
Relax the eyebrows.
Relax the cheeks,
Softening the jaw.
Drop the tongue from the roof of your mouth and let it rest gently.
That's right.
Soften your neck.
Maybe give your head just a gentle wiggle,
Side to side,
As you soften and become aware of your neck.
Relaxing the shoulders.
Relaxing the shoulders.
Relaxing the shoulders.
Relaxing the tops of your arms and your biceps.
Maybe give your wrists a little rotation and then gently rest them down.
Softening the fingers.
Softening the chest.
Noticing the air coming in and out of your lungs.
That's right.
Becoming aware of your stomach.
Maybe there's food digesting.
Maybe there's bubbles of air.
Just notice and soften the stomach.
Softening the back.
Softening that spine.
Noticing your hips and your pelvis.
Soften.
Notice those legs and thighs.
Soften at your knees.
If you're laying down,
Maybe you roll your knees out.
Softening your calves and your feet.
Fully relax.
Softening your calves and your feet.
Fully relaxed.
Noticing that breath.
Let this be a time to rest.
To be still and to remember that you are safe in the presence of love.
In Psalm 46 we hear,
Be still and know that I am God.
Let those words gently rest in your heart.
Be still and know.
Be still and trust.
Be still and rest.
Life in all its beauty and fragility is a gift.
You have lived,
Loved,
Loved.
You have laughed and cried.
Every breath,
Every heartbeat has been part of a sacred rhythm woven into a greater story of creation.
As you breathe in,
Imagine light filling your chest.
Imagine a soft golden light that warms you from within.
As you exhale,
Imagine the same light expanding outwards reaching beyond your body into the space around you.
This light is the love of God,
Eternal,
Unchanging.
It is here now.
It has always been here.
If you are walking towards the end of your earthly life,
Know that this light does not fade.
The body may grow tired,
But the spirit,
Your spirit,
Returns home to where it began.
In John 14 Jesus says,
Do not let your hearts be troubled.
In my Father's house are many rooms.
I go to prepare a place for you.
Rest in that promise.
There is a place prepared for you.
You are not alone.
Let your breath be easy.
Let your heart soften.
If any fear or uncertainty arises,
Simply notice it and let it rest in the light of God's love.
You don't need to change anything.
You don't need to do anything.
Just be here.
Breathing in peace.
Breathing out release.
Breathing in peace.
Breathing out release.
Breathing in peace.
Breathing out release.
Feel your pulse,
The steady rhythm of life,
A reminder that each moment is holy.
Whisper softly,
If you wish,
I am held.
I am your friend.
I am loved.
I am at peace.
Imagine placing your life,
Past,
Present and future into God's hands.
Rest in that peace.
Rest in that promise.
I am held.
I am loved.
I am peace.
