I'd like you to picture yourself relaxing on a lush green lawn.
There's a clothesline just overhead,
Stretched between two stately trees.
Five colorful scarves flutter in a gentle breeze,
Drying in the warm sun.
Each scarf is woven from the finest silk,
Brightly translucent in the afternoon light.
Over the next couple of minutes,
The scarves will dry and one by one flutter from the line.
As each scarf falls upon your resting body,
You'll sink into a progressively deeper and calmer state of tranquility.
A small gust of wind lifts the white scarf and sends it floating to your torso.
Its weight is barely discernible,
But you are infused with a profound sense of contentment.
The white of this scarf symbolizes the unbreakable link between the divine and your current reality.
Let it act as a reminder that you are always tethered to your body through your breath.
At any time during the meditation,
You can leave your surroundings and return to the present moment.
And now,
The blue scarf catches a bit of wind and drapes across your forehead.
The blue in this silk represents your thoughts.
Breathe into a deeper state of peace and know that it will be safe for you to soften your conscious mind and simply experience.
The yellow scarf drifts downward,
Softly unfolding across your heart and chest.
The yellow is a symbol of your shining intuition,
A reminder that when you are in touch with the deepest aspects of yourself,
You can trust what you know to be true.
The last two scarves,
Red and green,
Flutter down together and rest across your legs.
The red scarf arrives so you can remain in touch with your feelings,
And the green symbolizes sensations.
Having both of these for your journey into the past will serve you well,
For feelings and sensations can be carried from one life to the next.
Take another breath and feel your entire body soften.
Covered in this silken blanket of protection and wisdom,
Allow yourself to sink into a holy,
Tranquil state.
This intrinsic peace will remain at your core throughout the meditation,
Even as you're guided into new places.
Your journey back in time may put you in a different body and location,
But your soul remains constant.
Let this knowledge help you navigate your experience without fear.
The scarves lay quiet now,
And all physical sensations are muted.
Feel your spirit drift above your body.
Notice the details from this new vantage point,
The color of your hair,
The shape of your head,
The purposeful contours of your entire being.
What you used to perceive as flaws are now just aspects of a beautifully unique person.
A single strand of white silk appears,
And you follow it into an ethereal mist drifting further and further from your body.
The silken cord languidly unfurls as you drift back and back and back.
Your journey to the far reaches now,
Filled with a unique blend of joy and serenity,
Traveling in ways you've never experienced.
And finally,
You find that you have arrived at a new location.
Settle into this space and begin to orient yourself.
Look all around.
What are the most prominent features of this landscape?
Breathe in and notice the climate.
Does this place have a name?
There's a cluster of homes just ahead,
And they seem familiar.
Shift your gaze from your surroundings to yourself.
That should give you more information about who you are.
What kind of clothes are you wearing?
Can you see your shoes?
Look at your hands,
Then run them through your hair.
Are you male or female?
A name floats into your awareness.
Is this your name?
You are now fully inhabiting this body.
Now that you've physically grounded yourself,
Tune in to your sensations and feelings.
You have returned here because of a particular experience.
Is there something you need to remember from this time and place?
Something you wish you had said or done?
If a troubling situation arises,
Allow yourself to simply witness rather than re-experience.
Waves of images and emotions float through your senses.
The joy,
The heartache,
And your purpose are shifting into clearer focus.
Spend some time peacefully connecting to your life and surroundings as details begin to organically unfold.
