Self-love.
We live in times where self-love is frequently used.
It sounds great,
But what does it even mean?
Love yourself,
The old man tells the child.
Love yourself,
The mother tells her son.
I have been thinking about this lately.
In my opinion,
Self-love is becoming our own best friend.
Self-love is nurturing ourselves even when the reflection in the mirror is one we dislike.
Self-love is continuously walking through hell and never giving up.
Self-love is not one action.
It is a journey we need to embark on every day.
To love ourselves more,
To open ourselves to the infinite possibilities that life throws at us.
I know how woo-woo this is going to sound,
But I honestly believe self-love is the art of opening the heart and coming to the realization that we are worthy of love.
Showing up is an act of self-love.
Showing up for ourselves when our minds are racing.
Showing up for ourselves when there's a dark cloud above our heads.
Showing up for ourselves even when our inner worlds are falling.
Showing up over and over again until a glimpse of light finds its way through the gaps.
I have begun to discover self-love through discipline and practice,
Especially on days I do not feel like showing up.
Those are the practices that make the difference.
I hope this encourages you to practice self-love,
Even on days when you feel trapped within your thoughts or drowning in pain from the past.
Despite anything,
Love yourself.
