Sound Bath Sessions 149: Annie Chiu
“I played these bowls to chase a spider away.” This basically sums up the kind of lighthearted tone my session was with Annie. I met Annie last year about the project and she recently got in touch with me to record her sessions. Pressures from work and life led her to learn more about sound therapy for her own well-being and to help others that may have similar emotions. None of these pressures were apparent during our session where we talked and laughed about sound experiences, relationships, and life. Higher notes were played in this recording (probably because of the spider ;) and you can hear the bowls whistling their harmonics. It was hypnotic with some chord combinations being somber and dramatic, bordering on melancholy. Her exploration of different pulsing frequencies create a dynamic and interesting piece. She played a constant broken chord sequence until approaching conversations could be heard outside the door signaling our time was up.
