Hello and welcome.
My name is Sarah and I'll be your guide through this meditation.
Throughout our lives,
We're held by more support than we often pause to notice.
People,
Animals,
Places,
Even moments.
Today,
We're going to gather that support intentionally and let your body feel what it's like to be surrounded by it.
To begin,
Find a comfortable position seated or lying down.
Let your eyes close if that's comfortable,
Or soften your gaze downward.
Take a breath in and let it out slowly,
A little longer than usual.
Begin,
Bring to mind a place in nature that has held you.
A childhood backyard,
A forest trail,
An ocean,
Even a single tree.
Let the felt quality of that place surround you now.
Begin by bringing to mind someone else in your life who feels supportive.
It could be a friend,
A partner,
A family member,
Even a therapist or a colleague.
You don't need the full picture,
You only need a sense of their presence.
Let them appear somewhere near you.
Place them beside you,
Behind you,
Or wherever feels just right.
If another person comes to mind,
Allow them to join as well.
Now allow your mind to drift back.
Is there someone from your past,
Even a long time ago,
Who offered you support?
A grandparent?
An old friend?
A teacher?
Someone who may not be in your life anymore,
Or maybe even someone who's no longer living.
Let any of those folks know that they can take a place in this space with you as well.
Support does not end just because time or distance has passed.
Place them around yourself right now.
Feel into their presence.
Now begin to surround yourself with any animals who have supported you,
Any pets.
Even animals that you encountered who left impressions.
Let them settle in as close as you'd like,
Wherever feels most natural.
And again,
Sink into what it's like to have them placed there.
Now take a moment to notice everyone and everything gathered around you as you rest in this beloved safe space.
Some supports may be close,
Some further out.
There is a whole matrix of support built from your entire life,
Available to you all at once.
Now,
Let your attention drop out of this picture and into your body.
Where do you feel the support land?
Maybe it's a warmth in your chest,
Perhaps a loosening in your shoulder,
Or a steadiness in your legs or spine.
Let that sensation grow just slightly with each breath.
Breathe in and allow the felt sense of being held to expand just a little further.
Breathe out and allow your body to soften into it.
This matrix of support is already yours and you may carry it throughout your day.
When you're ready,
Gently bring movement back into your fingers and toes.
And slowly open your eyes,
Carrying this felt sense with you.
