This practice is an invitation to let go of the weight you have been carrying by being silent.
Find a comfortable position.
Place your feet on the floor.
And feel the solid ground beneath you.
Take three slow,
Deep breaths… step into your visualization.
And connect with that feeling.
Feel the safety.
In this place.
Now visualize the person you have written to standing before you.
Imagine them as calm,
Quiet and receptive.
They are here only to listen.
They cannot interrupt.
They cannot argue.
And they cannot leave until you are finished.
Begin to read your letter to them.
You may do this out loud or silently in your mind.
Do not rush.
Let every word land.
As you read,
Notice the physical sensation in your throat and your chest.
Imagine the words physically moving up out of your body.
You are not swallowing them anymore.
You are finally letting them go.
Once the last word has been spoken,
Take a deep breath.
Notice the silence that follows.
A clear,
Weightless quiet.
Stay with your body for a moment.
Do you feel a softening in your jaw?
A lightness in your chest?
A sense of space where there used to be enough.
Allow a color to come to mind that represents this feeling of expression.
See this color beginning to glow in your throat and chest.
Imagine it expanding.
Clearing away the old,
Stagnant energy.
And replacing it with fresh,
Clean light.
Now imagine yourself physically releasing the letter.
You might see the pages dissolving into the wind.
Floating away like autumn leaves.
Or you might see them sinking into the earth beneath the bath.
Where the soil can take them and turn them into something new.
Watch them go.
Until they are completely out of sight.
Return your focus to the space in your body.
Where the words used to live.
Breathes into that new open space.
Remind yourself.
This story is finished.
I have been hurt.
I no longer need to carry this.
Take one more deep breath.
Feeling the air move easily through your lungs.
When you are ready.
Gently return to the room.
And open your eyes.
