This is a practice for healing your inherited stories.
It's about untangling your nervous system from the stories that were passed down to you.
You are the one who decides where the old story ends and yours begins.
Before we begin,
Access the core feeling from one of the many visualizations I have provided,
Or make up your own.
Anchor in the feeling of that visualization.
Find a comfortable position.
Take three slow,
Rhythmic breaths.
Before we look back through generations,
Remind yourself that you are safe here and now.
Now bring to mind one of your parents or an ancestor at a very young age.
Perhaps between four and seven years old.
Don't worry about being perfectly accurate.
Just your impression of them as a child.
Notice how your body feels as you look at them.
Just acknowledge whatever comes up.
Now imagine this child receiving exactly what they were missing.
If they were neglected,
See them surrounded by love.
If they were afraid.
See them being protected.
Bring your chosen color into this image.
Watch as this younger version of your parent or ancestor is bathed in the safety they never had.
As you watch that child receive what they need.
Check in with your own body.
Has anything changed?
If there was a specific story you grew up hearing that has stuck with you,
Bring it to mind briefly.
Instead of seeing the original story.
Bring in a different ending.
Imagine the adult you are today walking into that story.
And providing the comfort,
The help.
Or the protection that was missing.
Imagine your chosen color flooding the scene.
If the emotion doesn't shift.
Use the memory rewriting practice.
And then come back to this process.
Stand in your peaceful visualization and see that parent or ancestor in front of you.
Offer them a kind smile or a hug.
But notice there is a soft,
Clear boundary of light between you.
Feel the relief of the air clearing around you.
Take a deep breath.
And let the image of your parent or ancestor go.
Spend a minute focusing on your heart.
Watch the glow expand with every breath.
Filling the space you've just cleared.
You are no longer carrying what is not yours to hold.
Take a deep breath.
When you are ready,
Gently return to the room.
Feeling the lightness of being the one who forged the new path.
