Blustery, Binaural Forest Ambience - Sound Meditation
by Ryan Garner
A gentle, trickling stream meanders through an old & blustery forest. The winds may be strong, but this doesn't stop the birds singing in the distance. This was recorded with a technique called "Binaural". Binaural audio essentially positions the microphones to mimic human hearing and our natural perception of sound. This generates a soundscape that is very natural to our hearing and also more immersive overall because it sounds as if we are actually in that place at that moment when listening on headphones. I would highly recommend headphones or earphones for the optimal listening experience. I wanted to craft a soundscape where it felt like you were sitting near the bubbling stream with the wind sweeping through the canopy overhead. With headphones, you will hear the wind circling you, switching from ear to ear. The photo is of a lake nearby to the recording location.
