This is Blackbird Thinks.
Today I would like to bring you a practice that can help to ground us in times of anxiety,
When we're feeling uprooted and unsettled.
And I know at the moment we can feel quite often in this way,
As the world seems very unsettled.
This practice is called Breathing with the Earth.
I invite you to find a comfortable position,
Either sitting on a chair or on the floor or lying down,
Whatever feels right for you now.
Feel your connection to the chair,
The floor,
The bed you're on and how the gravity is holding you,
Pulling you down.
Feel the weight of the gravity in your body for a moment,
As you settle into your position.
Feel your feet on the ground.
Your sit bones on the chair.
Your back as you lie down.
Feel the structures of your bones in your body,
Holding you together.
And let's breathe together.
Let's take a deep breath in through the nose together.
And out through the mouth.
With a bit of a sigh.
Let's do it again.
Breathe in.
And out.
And on the next in-breath,
I invite you,
If you haven't done yet,
To close your eyes gently.
And to become aware that the breath that you're taking in is the out-breath of the plants.
That we are in this constant exchange with the green world,
Exchange of breath.
As we breathe out,
They breathe in.
As they breathe out,
We breathe in.
And if it helps,
You can imagine that the air you breathe in has a green color,
A fresh,
Vibrant,
Vital green coming from the plants.
Breathe in this green air,
Deep into your lungs,
Fill it all with green breath.
And as you breathe out,
Fill your heart with gratitude for this gift the green beings are giving to us.
And breathe that gratitude out,
Knowing that they will breathe it in,
In their next breath.
And as we sit now,
For a while,
Breathing with the green beings,
Become aware that they are anchored in the earth,
Their body is the earth,
Is made from earth,
Comes from earth,
As much as our bodies are made of earth.
Every time we eat plants,
We become earth.
Our bodies are built from the building blocks of earth.
So right now we are earth in human form,
Breathing with earth in plant form.
Keep that thought,
Hold it and hold the gratitude in your heart as we breathe in this sacred exchange.
It's time to finish our breathing practice.
I invite you to put your hand on your heart,
To feel the gratitude and to gently come back into the room.
Feel your feet,
Wiggle your toes and your fingers,
Open your eyes and smile.
For you are part of the magic exchange between plants and humans.
Come back to this practice anytime you need it.
