So let's begin by settling into a position where your body is comfortable.
Sitting or lying down.
Letting your eyes close,
If that feels right.
Or soften your gaze.
And you don't have to change your breathing.
Just become aware that.
.
.
You are already being breathed.
And as you bring your attention inside,
Just know that you've got full control,
And you can press pause if your system needs more time.
This is your process.
And we'll go at your pace.
And notice what's going on in there today.
You don't have to change anything.
Make anything special happen.
Just notice.
And for this practice,
See if you can notice something in your life right now that you wish were different.
Something you've been wanting to change.
Maybe it's a habit.
A relationship.
The way you respond to something.
Just see if something comes to mind.
And as you bring that situation to mind,
See if you can notice whether there is a part of you that doesn't want that change.
You may already be familiar with this part.
Or maybe you just noticed some resistance.
Or tightening somewhere in your body.
Or just a knowing that it's there.
And maybe nothing obvious comes up at all today.
That's okay too.
If you can sense this part,
See if you can become curious about it.
How is it showing up?
Are you getting an image in your mind's eye?
Or a sensation somewhere in your body.
Or maybe a message.
Go ahead and focus on it.
And just notice how you feel toward it.
Usually people have parts that feel annoyed.
Or impatient with the one who doesn't want the change?
And that's completely natural.
If that's true for you,
You might see if those parts would be willing to open space just a little bit.
Maybe just as an experiment today.
So you can get to know this one directly.
If they're not willing to step back,
That's fine.
You can spend the rest of the time getting to know them and what their concerns are about this part.
But if they do let you connect with the one that doesn't want to change.
See if you can let this part know that you're here.
No agenda to make it change.
You're just here to get to know it.
And maybe you can say something like,
What would you like me to know about yourself?
And then just listen.
If it answered that question.
You might ask it,
What are you afraid would happen if things really did change?
And as you spend some time with this one.
See if you can appreciate that it's likely been trying to help you in some way.
Even if it's making your life harder.
There may still be some good intention underneath it.
If it's true for you,
Maybe you can let it know that you appreciate how hard it's been working.
And then notice how it responds to being appreciated.
You might ask it.
What do you need from me?
And if at any point this one's chosen not to engage with you,
That's okay too.
You can still send appreciation toward this part from a distance.
And let it know that you'll be here when it's ready to connect with you.
Before we close.
Notice what it's been like to be with this part without needing to change it.
Just being with it.
You might let this part that doesn't want to change know that you'll keep coming back.
That this isn't the last time.
That you're committed to getting to know it.
As well as the parts who might feel annoyed or impatient with it.
And you can offer thanks for whatever your system was able to share today.
When you're ready,
Take a few slow breaths.
Letting your awareness come back to the space around you.
Notice the surface beneath you.
Maybe wiggle your fingers and toes.
And as you open your eyes,
Know that the part that doesn't want to change is still there.
Still part of you.
And that this connection continues.
Thanks for meditating with me today.
