This is Rena Davis and this is a meditation for containing emotions when it's a time when you're not able to feel into them or when you're feeling especially heightened in your emotions and can't get control.
I'd like you to start by taking several deep breaths and just notice the feeling of breath in your body.
You might notice the feel of the breath in the nostrils and how that changes as you inhale and as you exhale.
You might notice the way your chest moves as you breathe with no judgment just noticing how deep the breath goes,
How fast you're breathing,
Just noticing whatever you can about breathing.
Now visualize a garden shed.
It's a lovely garden shed.
You might have glass doors that are frosted so you can sort of see inside.
It might be large or small,
Whatever suits you best.
As you approach this garden shed,
Notice what's around you.
Are there plants?
Are there animals?
Or something else?
Whatever comes to mind is fine.
Just notice it again.
No good or bad here,
Just being aware.
As you arrive,
You'll open the door to the shed and step inside.
On shelves along the walls,
You'll notice many,
Many jars of all different sizes and they're all different colors.
As you walk around you'll feel something as you pass them and perhaps you'll notice that some of them align with the emotions that you're feeling right now.
When you find one that resonates with how you feel in this moment,
This feeling that you don't want to have right now because it's not the right time,
You can open it up and imagine putting this emotion that you're feeling inside.
Maybe there's a change in color as you put it in.
Maybe you can visualize words going inside,
Shapes or even sounds.
Whatever feels right to you,
You're going to put it inside that jar.
Feel into your body and just notice any change as you close that jar up and then continue walking around the shed.
Maybe you come to another spot where there's another emotion that you need to get rid of in this moment.
Again,
You're going to open that jar up and imagine putting that emotion inside.
When you finish,
You close the jar tightly and again feel into your body.
Repeat this as many times as you need to,
Just noticing what you've put inside,
What it looks like,
What it feels like,
What it sounds like,
Knowing that it's all closed tight in those jars.
When it feels like it's the right time to leave the shed,
When you feel a little lighter in your emotion,
A little lighter in your state and in your body,
You'll walk out of that shed,
Closing the door behind you and using any type of lock that you like,
Whether it's a padlock,
An eye scan,
A thumb print or any other type of lock that you can think of.
You're going to lock that door up tight,
Knowing that you are the only person who's able to come into that shed.
When you feel like you're ready to work with that emotion again,
You know where to come,
That you can open one at a time and work with it and heal it and feel it and then you'll lock that door back up behind you when you're ready again.
Thank you for joining me on this little journey to contain emotion when necessary.
