Welcome,
Friends.
Let your body settle into stillness.
Your hands can be open in your lap,
Your spine long.
Take a slow breath in through your nose and release it fully through your mouth.
Two or three times more.
We are near the autumn equinox,
One of the only moments in the entire year when day and night stand in perfect balance.
Right now,
As you sit here breathing,
The sun is approaching the celestial equator.
Light and dark will soon be equal when the scales are perfectly held.
And then,
Just after the still point,
The scales begin to tip.
The nights will grow longer.
The light will recede.
The world will begin its great turning inward and everything in nature will follow,
Including you.
This is not a loss.
This is the wheel doing what it has always done,
What it did long before any of us arrived and what it will do long after.
The Autumn Equinox is a teacher of the most profound kind.
It says,
There's a time for everything.
And this is the time to harvest,
To release,
And to begin the sacred journey within.
Breathe and set these intentions now.
I honor the turning of the wheel.
I move with the seasons,
Not against them.
I trust the dark as much as the light.
Bring your awareness down into your body.
Into your feet,
Your legs,
The base of your spine.
Feel yourself connected to the earth beneath you,
The same earth that's shifting right now.
Cooling,
Deepening,
Drawing its energy downwards into the roots.
As you feel into your body.
In your mind's eye,
Step outside into an autumn landscape.
See the trees around you.
Their leaves turn to amber,
Copper gold,
Deep crimson.
The air is cool and clean and carries that particular quality of light.
Low and golden and rich with the smell of earth and wood smoke and something ancient.
Inhabit this landscape fully.
Feel the ground beneath your feet.
Soft with fallen leaves yielding and fragrant.
The Earth is receiving everything the trees are releasing.
Nothing is wasted.
Every fallen leaf becomes the foundation for what comes next.
You are a part of this same cycle.
Your body knows the autumn.
Something in you,
Some primeval cellular knowing,
Recognizes this turning and begins to slow,
To deepen,
And turn towards its interior life.
Honor that.
Don't push against it.
This time is above all a harvest festival.
Every tradition on earth has known this moment as the time to gather in.
To look at what grew from the seeds you planted in the spring,
And to give thanks.
So let's do that now.
Past your mind back over the past year,
Back to the winter solstice.
To the spring equinox.
Into the long light of summer.
What seeds did you plant?
What did you tend and nurture and work toward?
What intentions did you set?
Even quietly,
Even just in the privacy of your own heart.
The harvest invites you to ask what surprised you arriving in forms you didn't expect.
What didn't grow?
And what did that teach you?
And what are you holding in your hands right now at this turning that's ready to be truly received and celebrated?
Don't rush this reflection.
Don't minimize what you've grown,
What is real and good and yours.
Take a moment to name it silently.
Let yourself feel the satisfaction of the harvest.
Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.
Feel the fullness here.
Whatever you've gathered,
Large or small,
Visible or invisible,
Celebrated by others or known only to you.
It's real.
You did grow something this year.
And that matters.
Repeat internally.
I receive my harvest with gratitude.
What I have grown is enough.
What and who I am is enough.
And now turn your gaze back to the trees around you in this autumn landscape.
Watch them.
They are doing the most extraordinary thing.
They are letting go.
Leaf by leaf,
They're releasing what took all spring and summer to grow.
They are not clinging.
They are not grieving.
They simply let go.
And here is what the trees know that we sometimes forget.
The letting go is not a loss.
It is preparation.
Every leaf released is energy conserved for what comes next.
Everything shed makes room for the new growth waiting beneath the surface of the cold ground.
So let yourself ask now,
Honestly and tenderly.
What is it time to release?
What have you been carrying that has served its season and is now ready to fall?
It might be a belief about yourself that has gone yellow and dry at the edges.
A relationship that has reached its natural completion.
A version of yourself that you've outgrown.
A grief you've been holding long past the point of needing to.
Whatever it is.
Imagine holding in.
In your hands.
Feeling its weight.
Honoring it.
It's been part of your story.
And now with the same grace as the trees,
You bring your hands down to your lap and let it go.
Watching it fall slowly like a colorful leaf.
Coming to rest gently on the earth.
Where it will become something new.
Feel the lightness.
Feel the space where that thing used to be.
This is not emptiness now.
It's availability.
You have made room for something true to come.
The nights will grow longer from here.
The world turns towards the dark.
And in the old traditions,
This was not something to fear.
The dark half of the year was sacred.
It was the time of the inner life.
Of dreaming,
Visioning,
Deepening,
Resting.
A time when roots grow stronger even though you cannot see them.
Feel the quality of this shift inside you now.
There may be a part of you that wants to slow down.
That is tired of the pace of summer,
Tired of performing and producing and shining outward.
This isn't laziness.
This is wisdom.
Your body knows the season.
The Autumn Equinox is an invitation to begin moving your energy inward.
To ask,
What do I want to explore in the inner landscape of the coming months?
What questions do I want to sit with?
What do I want to understand more deeply about myself before the wheel turns again to light?
Let yourself be curious about the dark.
It is not the absence of something.
It is the presence of something else.
Something quieter.
More authentic.
Or mysterious.
Slowly beginning your return now.
Feel your breath.
Feel your body in this room.
Observe the ground beneath you.
And one last time,
Feel the extraordinary gift of this season,
The single fleeting points of perfect balance.
Before the wheel rolls on.
We'll take three final breaths,
Each one an offering.
The first breath for gratitude,
For the harvest,
For everything you grew this year,
Seen and unseen.
And the second breath for release,
For the leaves you're letting fall,
For the lightness that comes from letting go.
And the third breath for trust,
For the dark season ahead,
For the roots that will quietly deepen while the worlds and while you rest.
When you open your eyes,
You're crossing the threshold into autumn.
Carry the balance of this time with you.
The knowing that light and dark,
Action and rest,
Expansion and release are all a part of one sacred whole.
And you are part of that whole.
You belong here on this wheel.
Blessings for your autumn equinox.
May your harvest be full and your release be gentle.
