Two principles are vital to understand on the spiritual journey: the cost of denial and the importance of being a container for our emotions.

A new understanding cannot come if we keep our old positions. Staying asleep in the familiar keeps us in a state of alienation from our true selves. The longer we are ambivalent, the higher the cost. It is much safer to awaken because then the Universe will come in to help.

It hurts when we awaken from the numbness of denial, just as very cold feet sting when placed in warm water. Sometimes too we can dilute our experience and pour out our energy by speaking too much. Building a safe place of a quiet mind helps us go inward to solve difficulties. In this peace, we hear our inner voice and can access true knowledge.
