Coming to a seated position,
Feet flat on the floor,
Back comfortably straight,
Hands softly resting on your lap,
I invite you to close your eyes now.
Taking a deep breath,
Inhaling through the nose,
Filling your lungs until you feel a gentle stretch in your chest,
Hold.
Now release slowly through the mouth,
Letting out a gentle sigh.
What if your body could speak?
What would it tell you?
What would it say?
Beginning at your feet,
If your feet could speak,
What would they say?
What about your toes?
Moving up past your ankles,
Your calves,
Stopping at your knees.
If your knees could speak,
What would they say?
Gradually moving up past your thighs,
Coming to your hips.
If your hips could speak,
What would they say?
Focusing inward now on your abdominal region,
Placing one hand on your stomach,
If your stomach could speak,
What would it say?
What would your liver say,
Your pancreas,
Your gallbladder,
Your intestines?
Gently moving up your torso,
Keeping your attention inward,
Coming to your heart and lungs.
Placing one hand on your heart,
If your heart could speak,
What would it say?
Taking in a deep breath,
In through the nose,
Out through the nose.
If your lungs could speak,
What would they say?
Gently releasing your hand from your heart,
I invite you to clasp your hands,
Resting them softly on your lap.
Bringing your attention to your hands,
If your hands could speak,
What would they say?
Moving up along past your wrists,
Elbows,
And coming to your shoulders,
Taking in sensations of both arms.
If your arms could speak,
What would they say?
Many people can relate to the metaphor,
Carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
When you hear that metaphor,
How does it make you feel?
Bringing your attention to your shoulders now,
Taking a deep breath,
Raising your shoulders up towards your ears,
Pausing for a moment at the top.
Now slowly,
Gently as you exhale,
Release your shoulders back down to their resting position.
How do your shoulders feel now?
Placing your attention on your neck,
Specifically the front,
The throat area.
If this part of your body could speak,
What would it tell you?
You may laugh and say,
This part of my body does speak.
This is where my voice comes from,
Which is true.
If it wanted to tell you something,
If it wanted you to know something,
What would it say?
What would it tell you?
Slowly feeling into your face,
Your cheeks,
The sensations around your eyes,
Your scalp,
Your ears.
If any part of your head or face could speak,
What would it say?
Gently scanning your body,
Head to toe now,
Giving gratitude to every part as you make your way from the top of your head all the way down to the tip of your toes.
Our bodies are a miracle.
Our bodies do so much for us without ever realizing it or thinking about it.
It's a hardworking machine that needs love,
Kindness,
Gentleness,
And tenderness.
The next time you have a headache,
Ask your head what it needs and listen for its response.
The next time your stomach may be upset,
You have a backache,
Or your foot hurts,
Ask that part of you what it needs and listen.
Wait for the answer.
Deep within our being lie all the answers if we get quiet enough,
Still enough.
Our bodies know.
Our hearts know.
Our intuition knows.
Will you listen?
Taking in one last big breath,
Holding momentarily at the top,
And releasing completely out of the mouth.
Stretch your fingers,
Your toes.
Move your head,
Stretching your neck gently from side to side.
Slowly,
Blinking your eyes open,
Welcome back,
Welcome home.
May you be safe.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May you live with ease.
Namaste.
Namaste.
