She had to drift away for self-preservation.
She knew from a very young age,
Something was not right.
She wanted out.
She needed out.
As time continued on,
She saw clearer and clearer,
Felt deeper and deeper.
She became aware of the elephant in the room.
Slowly,
She began drifting,
Like a kayak leaving the shore.
It was painful,
The guilt,
The remorse,
The feelings of obligation.
And most profoundly,
The grief.
She would drift away and slowly return,
Ever so often,
Only to always get the same result.
She tried having conversations,
Only to be met with a wall of pushback,
Denial,
Blame,
Accusations,
Silence.
This was exhausting,
Mentally,
Emotionally,
Physically.
It was taking a toll on her health and well-being.
Silence is used to ignore the truth.
It's used as a control tactic.
People fear truth.
Truth needs no rehearsing,
No editing,
No preparation.
It only needs courage and a voice.
When truth is spoken,
Peace arises.
Drifting away isn't for the faint of heart.
It takes strength and a knowing that she will be okay.
The farther she drifts away,
The more peace she feels and experiences.
She wanted peace.
She needed peace.
In order for peace to arise,
She had to drift away.
She drifted away.
