Guided Singing Breathing Lie down on a yoga mat or a firm bed or a blanket on the floor and then bring your knees up so your feet are in a position where the tips of your fingers can touch the heels of your feet and make sure your feet are hip width apart Great Make sure your back is straight and that your spine is creating a straight line from the crown of your head to in between your feet Now place your hands on your lower belly and start to breathe into your hands on your inhalation Making them rise as you inhale and fall as you exhale Breathing in,

Hands rising Breathing out,

Hands falling Breathing in,

Hands rising Breathing out,

Hands falling Breathing in and out As you focus on this I want you to slowly draw your hands I want you to slowly draw all your attention to your breathing Let all your other niggly thoughts go and they can return to you later when you have time to act on them Breathing in and out Breathing in and out Now we're going to expand more than just our bellies in our inhalation We're going to expand the whole torso When you breathe in I want your upper belly to rise as well to become larger and your lower ribs will also expand as you breathe in So breathing in rising lower belly,

Breathing out lower belly Breathing into your ribs and breathing out Breathing in,

Feeling a really great sense of expansion and breathing out Great And just check to make sure your shoulders are nice and relaxed and that your neck isn't straining or that your head isn't in a bad position Keep breathing in and out and we're going to slowly move our hands up towards our ribs Now we're going to massage the muscles in between our ribs They're called the intercostals Just give them a gentle rub along the rib line Great And make your way up towards your clavicles massaging your intercostals Now as you get to the clavicles the muscles around them should be nice and soft as our postural muscles aren't engaged while we're lying down This is a very handy position to be in when we're singing and we just want to use our singing muscles Now just before we hop up and do a vocal warm up I want you to give yourself the most delightful neck massage you've given yourself in a while If you like it firm,

Give a firm one to yourself If you like it soft,

Be gentle Just say hello to your neck Thank it for holding your head and keeping your spine straight and doing all its beautiful things Keep breathing while you massage your neck Once you're ready You can hop up and we'll get started with a vocal exercise
