This poem was written for a dear friend, as we parted. It expresses thanks to that friend for what they shared, and hope that the benefits of friendship can continue to grow and bear fruit even if the friendship itself must end.

I wonder why we speak and why we act When everything we do must fade and pass When all we do is passingly refract one human light through other human glass Are all these blessings,

Kissings,

Touchings,

Gifts Fated empty-handed home to go When time must introduce his sorry rifts?

Though sad,

I can regretless answer,

No You've changed me,

Healed me,

Lifted up my soul You've changed the way I think,

The way I feel And though your leaving leaves me less than whole This cannot make what goes before less real Or even when we no more kiss,

You've given me a fadeless bliss
