Transcript
So we'll be here for about 20 minutes and I am intent,
My intention is to share color theory as we have been through the eyes of spirituality and energetics.
Just a little bit of a twist on a more traditional track of thinking of these so that it comes to your space when you pick up those colors with a little more integration in your own system and your own energetics and your comprehension.
A little more conscientiousness in your choices.
I'm Patricia Baldwin Segerbruck and before the brushes of space I created just about two years ago now to bring more understanding of the power of creativity as a meditation,
Healing,
Opening,
Revelatory practice like that of meditation,
Traditional meditation.
I find it to be my space of the most healing and revelation.
So I like to share that with everybody.
As we get started hearts are great,
Follows are wonderful,
Reviews are awesome if you listen to any of the recorded audios and donations are greatly accepted.
I will begin with this dialogue,
Talk about color theory violet and then we're going to get on to a five minute exercise with this color.
So if you're not set up yet please grab a surface,
Whatever you want and if you have any violet or purple crayons even grab those so that you can participate in that just five minute exercise at the close.
And then in two weeks,
I believe we've got it scheduled for two weeks,
We'll close this whole chapter on color theory with white.
So look forward to that.
Alright,
Violet.
The violets in the mountains have broken the rocks.
Tennessee Williams said that.
The violets in the mountains have broken the rocks.
There's a great deal of beautiful contemplation in that statement.
And then even more contemporary this one from JK Rowling.
It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
So that to me speaks to don't get too heady and remember the integration.
The rainbow violet does not stand alone in the rainbow,
No color stands alone in the rainbow.
No one energy of that chakra system which are color coded stands alone in its own.
It offsets and integrates and balances and harmonizes with the others.
Creativity these are words that are evocative of that violet or purple color.
Creativity so we're all in the right space here.
Creativity,
Enlightenment,
Femininity,
Imagination,
Inspiration,
Mystery,
Rarity,
Royalty,
And spirituality.
We'll kind of hit on all of those as I read to you here what I've composed.
Violet contains the energy and strength of red with the spirituality and integrity of blue.
This is the union of body and soul creating a balance between our physical and our spiritual energies.
Violet promotes harmony of the mind and the emotions contributing to mental balance and stability peace of mind a link between the spiritual and the physical worlds and between thought and activity.
That's that be and do again I've referred to that balance and harmony.
Somehow I feel that violet actually holds that whole compass of balance and harmony whereas I think I referred to it last with the blue and red body harmony.
Of course yeah violet.
The color violet inspires unconditional and selfless love devoid of ego encouraging sensitivity and compassion.
Violet encourages creative pursuits and seeks inspiration and originality through its creative endeavors.
Artists,
Musicians,
Writers,
Poets,
And psychics are all inspired by violet and its magic and mystery.
Violet is the color of the humanitarian using its better judgment to do good for others combining wisdom and power with sensitivity and humility.
I really like that.
Like that red blue balance I mentioned and body and soul balance harmony violet also defines a balance between heaven and earth.
It's that midpoint if you will between heaven and earth.
Violet is suggestive of the course of life from birth to death and this is why at least in the Catholic Church they decorate with purple on Good Friday.
The great as the Catholic Church promotes it the greatest birth to death to rebirth.
Before the Renaissance many Bibles and other holy books were written in gold letters on a purple background so that the reader always remembers the meaning of the Lord's passion.
I think that would mess with some eyesight.
Later in Western society purple was designated as the color of mourning.
Purple is also strongly associated with royalty therefore often perceived as being a very regal color.
These associations with royalty as well as wealth probably stem from the fact that the purple dye used in ancient times was very rare and extremely expensive.
Think about it how much purple violet do you see in the world naturally?
It's very rare to come across it.
Thanks we've got those violets.
Purple itself connotes and represents wisdom and spirituality as I said it's rare and mysterious nature perhaps causes it to seem connected to the unknown.
It's that mystery element the supernatural and the divine.
We orchestrate all of our religions around this sort of energy this unknown this divine supernatural.
Different shades of purple have different spiritual meanings.
Light purple violet associates with light-hearted romantic energies.
Darker purples represent sadness and even frustration.
Those mid-tone purples are often about courage and bravery.
Think of in the US the purple heart.
That's an award given to those most highly honored for bravery in military service.
George Washington started it by the way.
Since purple does not often occur in nature it can sometimes appear exotic or artificial.
For this reason it tends to be quite a polarizing color.
People tend to either really love it or really hate it.
Visually purple is one of the most difficult colors to discriminate to see.
It also has the strongest electromagnetic wavelength being just a few wavelengths up from x-rays and gamma rays.
I thought that was cool.
I'd like to scientifically investigate that to see that for myself or how the heck they figured that out in the first place.
Colors level of saturation or purity and how bright or dull it is also play into the frequency or wavelength and the energy that's associated with that color.
So now this goes beyond just violet it's speaking to all of that but super interesting.
So the saturation or the purity which yeah purity is kind of subjective but and then the brightness or dullness they play into that wavelength frequency which then of course you know plays into the energetic vibration of it and then that changes how the eye sees it and how of course the body then feels it or absorbs it.
All things absorb it not just our body.
Subsequently then how the brain perceives it.
So this can be unique to each and every individual and I was sort of playing with this this weekend and I painted over it.
I did swatches of the different shades and saturations of violet and tried to I mean I was setting myself up.
It's again incredibly subjective.
No control factors whatsoever but I painted you know dark to light and kind of muted some and made some dull and some very shiny and I wanted to see if I felt different.
Of course I did but I was looking for it too so not sure I got a good study there.
I find it intriguing though.
In my own work you know previous days I've had my work or previous colors I've had my work out to show you and honest to gosh the only you can see some purples in these paintings on the walls behind me but truly there aren't there is very little purple in my work and I find it very interesting about myself that it is my least favorite color.
So there's some purple in there.
Purple is my least favorite color to use to wear to decorate with you know none of the above.
And yet it's most associated with that connection between heaven and earth and spirituality and the body and if I were to at my best describe myself I feel that sense of being a conduit of being you know taking in the heavens and delivering it to earth somehow.
That's really lofty.
I don't mean that at all but I get that sense of something beyond the self and try to deliver it so you'd think I would really identify with this color but I don't.
One of the very first paintings I did back when I was painting in acrylic mixed water medium entered into a show got best of show for it.
So what am I saying one of the very first shows I was ever in and got an award for best of show was this massively violet purple painting and there again I'm so intrigued.
Some things we just don't know.
Why did that work?
So there we have it.
Violet the final color of the rainbow the final color of this seven main chakras in our body system.
Now you all probably are aware that the chakra systems go beyond our body and there are more many more chakra points in the body as well but these main seven make up that Roy G.
Biv we've been adventuring down.
White will tie us up as I said in two weeks but right now let's take this information about about violet to the canvas as we've done in the past five quick minutes.
You'll be amazed if you haven't participated yet you'll be amazed how much sensation can happen in a simple quick five minutes so look forward to it.
I've pulled aside a mid tone well a very vibrant dark deep purple but I'm toning it down with a little white going for a mid tone and pouring again today speaks to my spirit so I'm going to trust this desire and hope it shines appropriately in this last pour on this painting.
All right I'll turn you around and let's get started.
Okay great then.

Violet/purple is my favorite color so I loved hearing about it. I wasn’t sure what we were supposed to do in the open part so I just doodled (using colored various shades of violet pencils).
