Lectio Divina – Spiritual Reading Colossians 3:3 A non fact-finding practice. A reception to what the text has to teach you. A slow dance between Scripture, God & Silence. The meditation begins with a brief explanation of the practice. 1. Reading slowly. 2. Meditation-reflect on what its saying to me. 3. Prayer- What is my action or response? 4. Silent love or thankfulness towards God. Join Pastor and Hospice Spiritual Director Ryan T. Schmidt for a session of Lectio Divina.

Welcome and thank you for joining me for this Lectio Divina,

A practice of spiritual reading.

There are four sections including reading,

Meditation,

Prayer,

And contemplation.

There will be a prompt for each of these movements.

At the end of our time together,

There will be the sounding of a bell,

Which will signify the conclusion of our Lectio Divina practice.

Today I've selected Colossians 3.

3,

For you have died,

And your life is hidden with Christ and God.

I have personalized this verse to say,

I have died,

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

I invite you for the next 20 minutes to remove any distractions,

And come to a quiet and a centered place,

Where you can listen with your heart and your mind to what the Spirit would speak to you through this very short passage of Scripture.

I have died,

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

I have died,

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

I have died,

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

I have died,

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

I have died,

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

And my life is hidden with Christ and God.

Wonderful. Full of wonder. . . . my real life is hidden WITH Christ in God. He is my hiding place. In Him ~ I live and move and have my being. I died to this life ~ I choose not to hold on to this life in the flesh . . . my real life is in Christ Jesus ~ my resurrection into more.

Great balance between prompts/guidance and silence. Once my inner chatter quieted down, this was a smooth and powerful meditation.

So simple but so powerful. I originally thought there was no way that I could meditate 20 minutes on one short scripture, but the time went quickly and the well-spaced cues kept me focused. Perfect to start the day! Thank you!
