In this course we explore two simple but powerful sounds from the self-tuning practices drawn from my studies in sound yoga, or nāda yoga.
The production of the sounds, the action of the breath, the cultivation of listening awareness, can all help to shift our nervous system from fight and flight into rest and repair.
These sounds can take us into deeper internal connection and relaxation as we cultivate a state of inner listening through the meditative practice.
In particular, the first of the sounds, a hum, supports the body’s production of nitric oxide in the nasal passages. Nitric oxide plays a big role in our body's wellbeing, with amazing benefits for heart health, immune system support, blood pressure and more.
I invite you to park any self judgements you might have about whether you can sing, or any feeling of discomfort about your own sound. This is not about singing. It’s an invitation to start to gently play, explore and activate your own energy for inner connection, support, and even healing.
I share insights into the nature or essence that we are trying to connect with in this practice before moving into a guided experience of two of the foundational sounds.
You'll notice that there is a background sound or drone playing, providing a bed of sound for the practice. If you'd like to use a drone to support your own exploration, you can access a 10 minute drone by visiting my profile. When you feel comfortable you can try this as a background for whichever sounds you want to play with.
Enjoy! And remember, just 5 minutes of humming can transform your energy.
I hope you feel a direct experience of more inner connection and peace through the power of your own sound. Sound Yoga (Nāda Yoga): Philosophy, Practice, Benefits, Application In Daily Life
The meditative practice of sound yoga is drawn from ancient origins. This is an overview of the philosophy and elements that comprise a sonic yoga practice, how we might start to incorporate this into our daily life and the potential benefits. I also share insights about why we would use a drone in the practice. You can find a 10 min drone backing track to use in your own practice by visiting my profile.

Tuning In: MMM. Relax, Drop Into Your Seat, Connect With Your Breath
We open with a bed of sound, the sound of a drone, to support and hold us through the experience. Through guided invitations we drop into more connection and softening of the body to prepare us to engage with the first sound: 'MMM'. You gently put your lips together and hum.

Open To The Inner Bliss: AAA. Expand, Relax, Release, Open Your Energy
We move into the long vowel sound 'AAA'. I invite you to open and soften through the jaw and throat. Like biting an apple, allow yourself to open the mouth and allow the energy to move. You can intend that you're unraveling uphelpful or unconscious thoughts, beliefs, emotions that we hold in this region. This sound can support us in the activation of ānanda śakti - the inner bliss.
