Les 1
Introduction
In today's lesson you will discover the origins of mindfulness and emotional intelligence and how it has been used in the scientific field to benefit millions worldwide. Start a journey of discovery to find your own rationale and terminology so you can personalise your own mindfulness practice. Today, you will make an informal contract with yourself to practice every weekday and learn a simple, short formal practice.
Les 2
Making Time
Many people suffer from a perceived inability to make time for their ‘mental workout’ eg. “I don’t have time to meditate.” In today's lesson we use a simple exercise to reorganise your working day, reset your circadian rhythm and make your mindfulness practice as much a part of your daily routine as brushing your teeth.
Les 3
The Seven Tenets Of Mindfulness
In order to understand your exploration of mindfulness and emotional intelligence more deeply we learn the seven basic founding blocks of mindfulness. Observing these corner stones while you work and play, allows your self-awareness to flourish so you can apply your newly found emotional intelligence with greater consistency.
Les 4
The Triune Brain
As you start to feel the benefits of your daily practice and see changes begin to happen in your behaviour you will become increasingly interested in how these things occur through mindfulness. The model of the Triune Brain is an excellent way to grasp what is going on in your head when you practice mindfulness.
Les 5
Neuroplasticity
This practice is ideal for those who are skeptical of mindfulness practice. In this lesson you will be gently walked through an image of four fMRI scans showing the changes in neurosynaptic pathways in the human brain after eight weeks of consistent daily practice. We also review the research of Professor Eleanor Maguire at University College London measuring the hippocampus of London’s famous ‘black cab’ drivers.
Les 6
Digital Distraction
For those with busy minds or those who find it difficult to sleep, this practice teaches a new formal practice that shows you how to quieten your dorsal and ventral medial pre-frontal cortexes. We also explore, demystify and myth-bust sleep so that you can have a more relaxed and scientifically rounded approach to your unconscious life and learn how to master your digital devices.
Les 7
The Body Scan
As a means of deepening and accelerating your introspective journey we learn the most widely used formal MEQ (mindfulness and emotional intelligence) practice. The entire module is dedicated to this practice. From this point onwards your personal commitment changes to include a greater length of daily practice.
Les 8
Resilience
Emotional homeostasis (also referred to as emotional intelligence) is the bedrock of workplace operational ability. Together, we will explore the stillness which exists in all of us and explain how we can tap into this innate power during our working day and use it to better approach any challenge no matter how stressful.
Les 9
Communications
The mindfulness and emotional intelligence practices we have learnt change our approach to communication in general, but what about the internal process we all go through while listening? In today's practice we take apart the process of ‘mindful listening’ and you will learn how to trust your entire physical intuitive response and use it to encourage judicious communication in yourself and others.
Les 10
Conflict Resolution
This final module seeks to set out the ways in which you can take your newfound MEQ techniques further, both personally and in the work place. This lesson will teach you how to practice and perfect leading the Pause meditation practice, how to resolve conflicts in the office and how to adapt and learn to work with particularly ‘difficult’ colleagues.
