Soothing Our Over Stimulated Nervous Systems
Welcome to the first day of our compassion journey. Together we will be discovering how we can sooth our over stimulated nervous systems and learn short simple practices to relax, release and thrive. In our first session we explore how our minds work, noticing that our modern lives lead us to spend much of our time in the drive or the threat mode, which lead to stress and burn out, and then discovering how and why to move into the sooth mode, allowing relaxation and happiness.
Today we will use the Emotional Regulation Systems model, created by Paul Gilbert, the creator of compassion therapy, to explore how we respond to the world.
With a twist on the traditional 3-minute breathing space we investigate the compassionate breathing space. This short practice can be done at any point in the day, grounding you back in compassion and kindly awareness.

Barriers To Self-Compassion
Today we will explore the barriers we might experience to being more compassionate with ourselves. We often hold many ideas that stop us from being kind to ourselves, such as its self-indulgent or the idea our self-critic helps us to achieve our goals. Together we will challenge these and consider the science that shows us the opposite is true. Self-compassion makes us stronger, more resilient, and better able to reach our goals. We will then share a short simple compassion practice to take away and use again and again.

The Evolution Of The Compassionate Brain
Today we uncover the evolution of our brains and how this affects us today in our mood, relationship with ourselves and practice of compassion. By understanding these brains of ours we can see better how to work with our minds to find happiness and peace. We can choose the best tool to support us in each situation.
We will follow this by meeting the affectionate breath, a simple visualisation practice which connects us with kindly awareness.

Reflecting On The Journey So Far
How has your compassion journey been going so far? If you have come across challenges along the way, you are not alone. Today we consider what challenges we might come across and how we might meet these.
Sometime shining the light of compassion can illuminate the pain of the parts of ourselves where compassion has been absent. If this is the case, nothing has gone wrong, noticing this pain does not make it stronger, but rather allows us to see what is already there, and then heal.
We then relax as we shine the warm rays of compassion on the body in the compassionate body scan.

Consolidating Our Weeks Learning And Stepping Into The Next Chapter
In our final session, we draw together everything that we have learnt over this week as well as discovering our compassionate colour in the compassionate colour practice.
As we close this week together a new chapter opens, the next chapter of your compassionate journey. Hopefully this course will have provided you with the tools to start a lifelong compassion practice. Remember this community is here to support you on your path, share any questions you have or discoveries you make. I will always love to hear from you as you head onwards.
