Wat je zal leren
An Ayurvedic Cleanse is not fasting, nor does it involve restricting food. A short or longer cleanse is recommended twice a year (Spring and Fall), when seasons change and we are more suspectible to dis-ease and when our immunity is more vulnerable, and any time you feel that your digestive ability is low, and you need to lighten the load. An Ayurvedic Cleanse include pre-cleanse days to ease us into it, mono diet days to give our digestive system a break, and post-cleanse days, where we gently re-introduce (or decided not to...) some more normal foods. During the whole cleanse process, we want to reduce and limit the outward expression of energy and take good care of ourselves, ie have limited appointments and social times, and spend more time resting and connecting with nature. It's not just food, it's a whole energetic reset.

General Guidelines And Information Before We Start
Here is a brief overview of what you will need for the next 10 days, so that you can prepare accordingly. I also recommend that you start each day with the audio of the day, as I give you guidelines and recommendations. The first 3 days are pre-cleanse days, then we have 3 days of kitchari mono diet, and we finish with 4 days of post cleanse.

Day 1 - Pre Cleanse
I’d like you to spend some time writing down WHY you are doing this cleanse, what your goals, needs and motivations are. Today you will remove from your diet cold beverages, animal protein, alcohol and you will also start to reduce/ taper off caffeine. Breakfast is oatmeal, lunch a grain bowl with vegetables, and dinner a nourishing soup.

Day 2 - Pre Cleanse
Today you will remove from your diet processed and natural sugars, processed carbs, continue to reduce your caffeine intake (including tea) and completely stop snacking between meals. Breakfast is oatmeal, lunch a plant based nourishing grain bowl, and dinner a delicious soup. Today, I’d love for you to start creating an evening ritual that feels soothing and calming.

Day 3 - Pre Cleanse
Today, please eliminate all dairy (except ghee), nuts, caffeine and any other processed or packaged food. Your meals will be the same as the first 2 days. Make sure you continue to drink plenty of warm water throughout the day. Before going to sleep, and you can do this sitting or laying in bed, I would suggest to take a few minutes for some mindful breathing.

Day 4 - Mono Diet
Today is your first mono diet day ! Make sure you drink plenty of warm water throughout the day, about 60oz. In terms of energy expense and schedule, take it really easy for the rest of the cleanse, and add plenty of rest time while your body is taking care of itself. For breakfast, have oatmeal. For lunch and dinner, you’ll be eating kitchari. I suggest you add a little cilantro or parsley chutney on top.

Day 5 - Mono Diet
This is usually a good time to notice how much you rely on food normally to soothe discomfort, to relieve stress, to experience pleasure. All of that has been taken away from you right now, and because meal prepping is limited, you might have even more time on your end to feel restless and uncomfortable. Today, you will follow the same meals and routines as yesterday. It’s pretty straightforward by now, let yourself be carried by the rhythm of it. If you have a yoga practice, include some twists in your routine today.

Day 6 - Mono Diet
I'm pretty sure you're getting tired of kitchari by now... Remember that it is a short period of time, and today is the last day of the monodiet. You've got this. Do your best not to cheat and stick with your mono diet for lunch and dinner, as well as avoid snacking. Stay committed to your resolution and to seeing this process through. I’ll see you tomorrow !

Day 7 - Post Cleanse
The next 4 days are the most important part of the cleanse protocol. You could totally ruin all the efforts you've made this week by reintroducing foods too fast or inappropriately so, overwhelming your digestive system so please, continue to stick with the plan. This is really important.

Day 8 - Post Cleanse
I’d like you to take a moment today to reflect or journal about how you are feeling, both physically and mentally. What feels lighter ? Where do you feel stuck ? What are your general thoughts and feelings about this process ? What are your levels of energy and fatigue without the cover of caffeine ?

Day 9 - Post Cleanse
This is the portion of the cleanse where we even feel inclined to cheat (just a little bit) because we feel we’re almost done, so why not. It’s okay if you do. It won’t radically impact the result if you have a small amount of something that isn’t on the list. And, maybe you want to consider that you worked really hard until now, and that it’s only today and tomorrow left ! So why not stick with the plan until the end ?

Day 10 - Post Cleanse
I would strongly encourage you to take a moment and celebrate today, and maybe even buy yourself a little treat like a self care product you’ve been wanting to try, a nice book, some plant or flower that would enliven your space. I would also suggest that you close the cleanse with reflections on the entire process, and what it’s been like for you. List any obstacles that have shown up along the way, and list your wins.

This was a great pocket-sized support to my first Ayurvedic cleanse! I enjoyed the interspersed practices with very detailed practical information about what to eat and what to avoid - in some cases the course answered questions that online sources left fuzzy when I tried to read about Ayurvedic cleanses, so although the format is short and sweet...
