I offer this meditation as a Sikh woman bringing the wisdom and virtue of my faith into the space.
Not as preaching but as something I'm learning to live to.
Find a comfortable position.
And when you're ready,
Gently close your eyes.
Take a slow breath in.
And slowly let it go.
Again,
Breathe in.
And breathe out.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Relax your jaw Let your hands rest.
And for the next few moments give yourself permission to not figure anything out.
Nothing to solve,
Nothing to decide.
Nowhere else you need to be.
Just breathe.
There is a word in Tziki,
Hukum.
The divine order within which life unfolds and perhaps living in hukam begins with a very simple recognition.
I cannot control everything.
And I don't have to.
Bring to mind something you've been carrying lately.
Something uncertain,
Something you're waiting for,
Something you desperately want to work out or perhaps something you're afraid might not.
Don't change it.
Don't analyze it.
Just allow it to be here.
Notice what happens in your body when you think about it.
Do your shoulders tighten.
Does something shift in your chest,
Your stomach,
Your breath?
Wherever you feel it,
Breathe there.
And as you exhale,
Allow yourself to soften around it.
You don't have to let go of what you want.
Just loosen your grip on how it must happen.
Create them.
And breathe out.
And quietly say to yourself,
I will do what is mine to do.
And I will release what is not mine to control.
Again.
I will do.
What is mine to do?
And I will release.
What is not mine to control.
Notice the difference between giving up and letting go.
Giving up says,
I will do nothing.
Letting go says,
I will give this my effort,
My honesty,
My courage,
My love.
But I will not demand that life answer me exactly as I expect.
Perhaps,
Trust isn't knowing that everything will happen the way you want.
Perhaps,
Trust is knowing.
Whatever happens,
You will meet it.
You don't need to see the entire path.
Only the step that is in front of you.
You don't need tomorrow's answers today.
And you don't need to carry what was never yours to control.
Take a deep breath in.
And slowly breathe out.
If there is fear around the outcome,
Let it be here.
You don't have to fight the fear either.
Simply breathe.
And remind yourself I can be uncertain and still be at peace.
I can hope without holding.
I can act without controlling.
I can trust without knowing.
And now very gently offer whatever you have been carrying into something larger than yourself.
You have done what you can.
You will continue to do what you can.
And the rest you do not have to hold so tightly.
Faheeguru Let the word settle with the breath.
Vahe Guru Again.
Wahe Guru!
Nothing to ask for,
Nothing to force.
Simply resting for a moment in trust.
Take one final slow breath in.
And as you exhale,
Soften your grip once more.
Whatever comes,
May I meet it with grace.
Whatever doesn't.
May I have the strength to release it?
And whatever is mine to do.
May I have the courage to do it.
Gently pull within.
Vaheguru,
When you are ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh
