Stay: A Song To Help With Grief
In our collective conditioning there are some odd concepts about death and grief, especially in modern Western culture. I heard the phrase "letting go" a lot when my partner died at the young age of 43. His physical body had gone, but he was most definitely there with me every day. The fact I felt his presence tangibly was sustaining and healing me. What could be more natural in the midst of my deep pain than the person who took such good care of me in his physical life continuing to do so? What exactly was I supposed to "let go" of and why? Our loved ones do not leave us, we can still communicate with them and vice-versa; that was— and is— my lived experience. Encountering some misguided attitudes in the aftermath of my partner's death (amidst much beautiful and loving support) prompted this song. With love and blessings to all who are in grief.
