Well hi there friends,
It's good to see you.
We're here for you today and today we're talking about self-esteem.
I gotta say I like myself,
I like doing the things that I do,
I like to practice the things that I enjoy like singing and playing music and so yeah I'm just enjoying being me at the moment.
I love that you know that about yourself Barry.
I love that you know what you're good at and that you really enjoy doing things and you take pride in it,
That you really know the awesomeness that you are Barry actually.
It sounds to me like you have really good self-esteem.
And what is that?
Self-esteem is when self is you and esteem is when you admire something or you respect something or you're proud of something.
So self-esteem is I am proud of myself,
I admire myself,
I respect myself.
All right and sometimes people ask me how do I know about self-esteem?
Do I have high self-esteem?
And there are some questions that you can ask yourself about that.
Aren't there Barry?
Yeah well I think one of them is to just say to yourself I can do hard things.
I can do things that are difficult.
I can do that.
I like the ones that are like I am great at and then you can fill in the blank for what you're great at.
Or I love myself because and you can fill in the blank there.
Yeah I think another one is a good one is I am not afraid to make mistakes.
I am willing to try new things.
I like which fits perfectly with mistakes.
I can ask for help.
You might think like making mistakes and asking for help are not great things but when you have good self-esteem and you know how awesome you are and the goodness that you have then asking for help or making a mistake is not a big deal.
And I can solve problems.
I can solve problems.
When things come up I can solve them.
Okay and I love being me because.
Yeah.
But sometimes you know if self-esteem is just generally feeling good about yourself and you're trying to work on that.
You want to practice having some self-esteem there are some things we can do.
What's something we could do?
One thing I think we can do is start start out the morning with an I statement like I am going to do this today or I'm gonna feel this way today or I am going to enjoy this today.
Just getting yourself into motion of connecting with all the good that we have in us and bringing that to the world.
Yes.
I like to try my best because if and I know a lot of times grown-ups say that right try your best but if I actually am trying my best at everything then even if something doesn't go exactly the way I wanted it to I can still feel good about the effort that I put into it.
Yeah and I think a thing that goes along with that is practicing.
Practice what you love whether it's a sport or it's an instrument or it's singing or it's writing the things that you love practice those things so that you get better at them and enjoy your practice I think is an important part of it too.
I like the practice one because I'm practicing what you're good at I think that's actually a key thing because when I'm really good at something and I practice and I get even better it shows me that I can be good at other stuff too so I think that's a good one and it fits perfectly with just believing that you can when you can we talked about using those I statements and actually saying things but when you can imagine it in your head and actually believe it that will also help you raise your self-esteem.
Okay there is a fun way that you can practice your self-esteem and I like to call it the what's in a name game.
What's in a name game and to do this you just write out the letters of your name so this is my name S T A C Y Stacey and then I think of something good about myself we talked about how self-esteem is knowing the good about yourself and feeling pretty good most of the time so I made a list of some of the good that is me right so for my S I am smart I am smart for my T I am thankful I'm really grateful for a lot of stuff in my life for my A I am awesome at listening I think I'm a really good listener and I am awesome at having fun so I am awesome at things that's my A for C I am a very creative problem solver I'm good at figuring things out so I am a creative problem solver and for my Y I really like making yummy cookies Y for yummy yummy cookies is my Y I am curious what other people might come up with for their names.
Yeah yeah just to write the letters of your name out and come up with stuff.
Yeah definitely all right so we have an affirmation today.
Yes we do I am great just the way I am.
I am great just the way I am.
I am great just the way I am.
I am great just the way I am.
All right I'm I'm feeling really good.
I'm just feeling over the moon right now I'm good.
We are really excited for the all of the goodness and awesomeness that is you.
Give yourself a pat on the back because you did so well all right and we will see you soon.
All right so we've been talking today about self-esteem and just being okay with ourselves and actually liking ourselves so that's what this song is about it's called Just the Way You Are.
Just the way you are is okay with me.
Just the way you are is how you were meant to be.
I like you just the way you are don't you change a thing for me.
No one else is just the same as you and it's the way that you're supposed to be.
Because just the way you are is okay with me.
Just the way you are is how you were meant to be.
When people say that I'm not okay like I should be some other way.
I think of this little simple song and these are the words I say I tell them just the way I am is okay with me.
Just the way I am is how I was meant to be.
Every day I learn and grow I change a little bit each day.
But for today this is how I am and I love myself this way.
Because just the way I am is okay with me.
Just the way I am is how I was meant to be.
And just the way you are is okay with me.
Just the way you are is how you were meant to be.
It's how you were meant to be.
