If people knew they were about to burn out, they would change direction, right? They don’t know, that's the catch. Here’s an essential visual reminder of what's actually happening beneath the surface when energy runs low day after day. And a simple tip on how to guard your energy when inviting people.

A lot of us have difficulties knowing how much energy we can actually spend during a day.

We feel or think that we have unlimited,

But we don't.

So people who burn out,

If they knew they were headed that way,

They would have stopped it beforehand.

People who get stress,

If they knew and felt it beforehand,

They would stop it.

So we can't always trust ourselves and our own judgment.

So sometimes a visualization helps.

If you visualize,

Imagine that every morning when you get up,

You have a certain amount of energy that you can use for that day.

If you see it as wood stacked in a pile,

That's the amount of energy you can use that day.

So what happens if you use more that day than there is in the pile in front of you?

Where do you get that energy from?

You might be doing what she's doing here.

So she's throwing a garden party on Saturday,

But she's spent all her energy up front to get through her week.

So what does she do to do this party on Saturday?

Well,

She borrows from Sunday.

And then what will happen Sunday when she gets up and there's no more energy and still things that have to be done?

Well,

She borrows from Monday,

Etc.

So we need to have an awareness of how much energy we spend so we don't end up burning out,

Burning our candles in both ends,

Going up in smoke,

Playing with fire.

Sorry,

I'll stop here.

So another thing to this when throwing a party,

For instance,

Or having people in your home,

Lower your standards in that area as well.

So when I took my education as a psychotherapist,

We were told that either we should write a bit ugly on the blackboard,

Or we should have a bit of messy piles in the clinic.

And somebody asked why?

Because people feel more comfortable if everything is not straight and lined up.

You relax more.

If you can see that this is a place where I can lean back,

I don't need to be perfect here.

Why do we travel to Pisa?

So many people travel to Pisa.

What's so interesting?

Well,

There's a leaning tower.

Why is that so interesting?

It's imperfect.

We love this.

It's relatable.

So bear in mind,

Where do you feel most comfortable?

If you lower your standards,

You will lower your stress level,

You will get more energy.

And then be aware of how much energy you burn off every day.
