Welcome to a sunflower meditation.

So let's sit down in a comfortable position.

Maybe your legs are crossed on the floor,

Maybe you're sitting in a chair with your feet flat on the ground,

Or maybe you're lying down.

Gently move around and get your wiggles out.

That's it,

Start to relax.

And when you're ready,

Gently close your eyes.

We're gonna take a few slow,

Deep breaths together.

Inhale,

One,

Two,

Three.

Exhale,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Again,

Inhale,

One,

Two,

Three.

Let it all out,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Last time,

Big breath in,

One,

Two,

Three.

And let it all out,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Great job.

Now begin to breathe normally once more.

Let's imagine that you are a teeny tiny sunflower seed and you're buried deep in the dirt.

Dirt is all around you,

Below you,

Above you,

And on either side of you.

The dirt feels cool and wet and soft.

Though you can't see it,

Far above the soil is the sunshine and air.

You can feel it.

You know it's there.

And you know you will get there.

First,

You wiggle around and make yourself more at home in the dirt.

You grow roots,

Roots that grow deep into the ground.

Roots that keep you healthy and fed.

You sprout a stem.

It begins to slowly journey upwards through the dirt towards the sunshine and air.

Each day,

You grow just a little and you never stop growing,

Even if it's slowly.

And you never give up.

Even though growing is very hard,

Messy work,

You continue to grow taller and stronger and stronger and taller.

Your stem keeps growing,

Pushing up through the dirt,

Fighting the mud and the darkness,

Getting closer and closer to the bright sun,

Even though you can't see it.

You know you'll get there.

Then one day,

Your little seedling and stem pop out of the muddy dirt.

Light shines on every inch of you and you feel happy and warm.

This is what you worked so hard for.

Even though you couldn't see the light from underground,

You knew it was there.

You grow many sunflower leaves and a strong stem,

Deep roots and a tight flower bud.

As your flower bud grows bigger and brighter,

Your beautiful yellow petals begin to open.

One by one,

Slowly at first they open until you burst into full bloom.

Wow,

You are a sunflower.

You are so beautiful and stand so tall above the dirt,

Not at all dirty from the muddy ground you grew out of.

You are bright and strong and gorgeous.

You are beautiful in the eyes of everyone who sees you.

You are brave and determined.

You remind others to keep going and believing in themselves,

Like you believe in yourself.

You grew out of the dirty ground to a big,

Gorgeous sunflower and you feel very proud of yourself.

You are here to share your light with the world and be a reminder for others that they too can rise above the dirty,

Unpleasant,

Dark times in life,

Just like a sunflower.

When you believe in yourself,

You will bloom.

You are here on this earth to remind others that they can grow tall,

Strong and beautiful no matter where they come from or what they've been through in life.

Every moment of every day is a chance to keep growing out of the dirt and up towards the sun,

Just like a sunflower.

You are a sunflower.

Keep on blooming.

Now begin to focus on your breath once more.

Let's take a few slow,

Deep breaths together again.

Let's inhale,

One,

Two,

Three,

Exhale,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Again inhale,

One,

Two,

Three,

Exhale,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

One more time,

Big breath in,

One,

Two,

Three and let it all out,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Great job.

Now when you're ready,

Slowly begin to open your eyes.
