The Wizard Of Oz. 12: The Search For The Wicked Witch

You've seen the movie: now listen to the book and enjoy all its similarities and differences! It is the source material, not just for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, but for contemporary movies like Wicked and Wicked: For Good.

In the latest chapter of L Frank Baum's story, the travelers leave the Emerald City and eventually find the Wicked Witch of the West. She calls upon the Winged Monkeys to destroy the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman and capture the Lion. But she is unable to harm Dorothy or Toto.

L Frank Baum openly admitted to being influenced by Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass. If you're enjoying The Wizard of Oz, you may enjoy these stories too, both narrated by me on Insight Timer.

So interesting; Dorothy’s dress and Toto’s ribbon turn white, the color of the Suffragettes whom Baum’s wife and her mother supported, an influence on him. Its notable that all the main characters except the Wizard (who is a faker) are female and drive all the action. I also wondered if the mark from Glinda’s kiss on Dorothy’s forehead inspired JK Rowling and the mark on Harry Potter’s forehead. Food for thought. Thanks Mandy🙏🏻
