This is about mastery.
Over your money,
Your mind,
And yourself.
Perfectionism is often misunderstood.
People associate it with having incredibly high standards.
But psychologically,
Perfectionism can have much more to do with fear.
Fear of criticism.
Fear of making the wrong decision,
Fear of producing something that doesn't match the image you have of yourself,
And sometimes fear of discovering that even your best effort might not be enough.
That's why perfectionism and procrastination often exist together.
If I never finish something,
It can never truly be judged.
If I spend another week improving it.
I can delay the moment where somebody gets to decide whether it's good or bad.
And that gives you temporary relief.
And your brain learns something from that relief.
Avoidance kept me safe.
So the cycle repeats.
One way of challenging this is deliberately changing the goal.
Instead of asking,
How do I make this perfect?
Ask yourself.
What would make this good enough to move forward?
That doesn't mean lowering your standards.
It means recognizing that improvement requires feedback,
And you cannot receive feedback from something you never release.
Think about almost anything you're good at today.
You probably weren't particularly good when you started.
Competence came through repetition,
Mistakes,
Correction and experience.
Not perfection.
So if you've been waiting until you're completely ready,
Confident or certain,
Give yourself permission to move before those feelings arrive.
Your first attempt isn't supposed to demonstrate your potential.
It's supposed to begin developing it.
Master yourself first,
Everything else follows.
