To begin to process any emotion, stillness is an excellent practice. It doesn't need to take long -- a few breaths is often a great way to start. Grief is a difficult emotion to sit with. Let this short practice get you started. You may even find that you are able to smile.

Hello Beloved,

Find stillness to listen to your emotions.

If you'd like,

Place your hands on your heart and take one deep breath in through your nose,

Fill up your belly.

Exhale slowly through your mouth.

Stillness is your friend.

Call upon it.

Invite it.

Hold it in your heart.

You can discover the emotions most calling upon you once you hear it.

You can listen to it.

Listen to it intently.

Practice being still every day,

If only just for a few breaths.

I found that stillness is my friend.

It is your friend.

If you can find that silence in your stillness,

You will find the answers that are already inside of you.

Give it the space it is asking for in your heart.

Make room for it.

Make room for the grief.

Take the time to grieve.

Don't ignore it.

Don't brush it off.

Grieving can act like a gnat.

They bite and bother until you put some focus on them.

Grieving changes daily.

The emotions change daily.

The emotion pulls on us.

It calls for your attention.

It grabs you as though it wants to pull you underwater.

Even feeling as though you cannot even breathe.

Listen to it.

Be with it.

Be still with it.

You will find that it does help.

Grief is such a difficult emotion to be with,

As all emotions are really.

Listen.

Give it space.

Give it time.

Honor yourself by being still.

To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die.

Thomas Campbell.

Let's take three deep breaths.

In through your nose,

Fill it up all the way down to your belly.

Pause.

Slowly.

Breathe out through your mouth.

Take another.

Breathe through your nose.

Exhale through your mouth.

Allow your shoulders to drop with the breath.

One more.

Breathe in through your nose.

Exhale through your mouth.

Allow your shoulders to drop with your exhalation.

Now,

Smile to what or to whom you grieve.

Be still and know that I am God.

Psalm 46 verse 10.

Be still,

Beloved.

Be still and smile.
