Find a comfortable position.
You can close your eyes if that feels comfortable,
Or simply soften your gaze.
Taking a slow breath in.
And a slow breath out.
There's nothing you need to fix.
Figure out or change right now.
Just allow yourself to arrive.
And notice the support beneath you.
The chair.
The floor.
Or the bed.
Let yourself settle a little more into this moment.
Now imagine for a moment your inner world is a bit like a community or a village.
Most of us have different sides of ourselves that show up throughout the day.
Maybe there's a part that worries about getting things right.
A part that pushes you to work harder.
Part that wants to rest or is tired.
A part that avoids difficult feelings.
A part that gets frustrated.
Or a part that wants connection.
These parts aren't signs that something is wrong.
There's simply different aspects of you,
Each trying in its own way.
To help you navigate life.
You don't need to go searching for anything.
Instead,
Gently ask yourself,
What part of me is most present right now?
Maybe something comes to mind immediately.
Maybe you notice a feeling,
A thought.
And urge your attention in your body.
Maybe you notice a part that is skeptical about this exercise and that's okay too.
Whatever appears or doesn't appear is welcome.
I want you to take a moment to simply notice.
And if you become aware of a part,
See if you can observe it with curiosity.
For example,
You might ask,
What is this part feeling?
What is this part wanting me to know?
There's no need to analyze or judge the answer.
Just listen.
You might imagine sitting beside this part as you would a friend.
Not trying to change it.
Not arguing with it.
Just getting to know it.
Notice what happens when you become curious rather than critical.
You might even ask.
How are you trying to help me?
Many parts of us have been working hard for a really long time.
Even the ones that create stress,
Anxiety,
Procrastination.
Or self-criticism.
Often trying to protect us from something.
See if you can appreciate the effort this part has been making.
Even if its strategy isn't always helpful.
You might simply say,
Thank you for showing up.
I thank you for trying to help.
Remember,
You don't need to solve anything today.
The goal is simply to begin building a relationship.
To let your parts know that you're willing to listen.
Take one more breath.
Notice your body.
Notice the room around you.
And before you finish,
Consider this question.
What is one thing I learned about myself in these last few minutes?
And whatever comes to mind is enough.
And when you're ready.
Gently bring your attention back to the present moment.
