Hello and welcome.
Thank you for taking these next few minutes to slow down,
Reconnect with yourself,
And simply be present.
Today we're going to practice a gentle body scan meditation.
There's nothing complicated about this practice.
We're simply going to bring our attention.
To different parts of the body,
Noticing whatever sensations might be there.
And as we do this,
We'll give ourselves permission to relax.
To soften and to let go.
Of some of the tension we have been carrying throughout the day.
Begin by finding a comfortable position.
You can lie down or sit comfortably in a chair.
Whatever feels right for you.
If you're comfortable doing so,
Gently close your eyes.
And just take a moment to settle into the space around you.
Take a slow,
Gentle breath in and slowly breathe out.
Another gentle breath in and slowly breathe out.
As you breathe out,
Allow your shoulders to soften.
There's nowhere else you need to be right now.
Nothing you need to accomplish.
For the next few minutes,
Simply allow yourself to be here.
Let's begin by bringing our awareness to the body as a whole.
Notice how your body feels in this moment.
Perhaps you can feel the surface beneath you supporting your weight.
Maybe you notice areas of warmth or coolness.
Perhaps there's some tension,
Restlessness,
Or discomfort.
Whatever you notice,
See if you can simply acknowledge it.
There's no need to change anything.
No need to force yourself to relax.
Just becoming more aware.
Of what's happening within us.
Notice the natural rhythm of your breathing.
The gentle rise and fall of your chest.
The subtle movement of your abdomen.
Allow your breath to find its own comfortable rhythm.
And remember,
There is no right or wrong way to experience this meditation.
Now let's bring our attention.
All the way down to our feet.
Begin by noticing your toes.
Your big toes,
Your small toes.
See if you can become aware of any of the sensations in this area.
Perhaps there's warmth.
A little tingling,
Or perhaps you don't notice anything at all.
And that's perfectly fine.
Now gently shift your awareness to the soles of your feet.
Notice your heels,
The arches of your feet.
The tops of your feet.
Imagine that with every gentle breath out.
Your feet are becoming a little softer and more relaxed.
There's nothing you need to do.
Just notice.
Just allow.
Let's slowly move our attention upward toward the ankles.
Notice how your ankles feel.
And now bring your awareness to your lower legs,
Your calves,
Your shins.
Perhaps these muscles have been working hard throughout the day.
Walking,
Standing.
Carrying you from one place to another.
Take a moment to appreciate everything your legs do for you.
As you breathe out,
Imagine any unnecessary tension gently softening.
Now bring your attention to your knees.
Notice the front of your knees.
The backs of your knees.
There's no need to create a particular sensation.
Simply observe whatever is present.
Now gradually move your awareness into your thighs.
Notice the muscles at the front of your thighs.
And the muscles at the back.
See if you can sense their weight.
Their warmth,
Their contact with the surface beneath you.
Gently move your attention toward your hips,
Your pelvis,
And the area around your lower body.
Sometimes we carry tension.
In places without even realizing it.
And that's okay.
You don't have to make that tension disappear.
Simply becoming aware of it is enough.
As you breathe out,
Imagine the muscles around your hips becoming a little less guarded.
A little more at ease.
Allow the lower half of your body to feel supported.
Let's now bring our awareness to the abdomen.
Notice the gentle movement of your belly as you breathe.
Rising slightly as you inhale.
And falling as you exhale.
There's no need to hold your stomach in.
Allow it to be natural.
Soft.
And comfortable.
Now shift your attention toward your lower back.
This is an area where many of us tend to carry tension.
Perhaps from sitting for long periods,
Or simply from the demands of everyday life.
See if you can notice how your lower back feels without judging.
Without resisting.
As you breathe out.
Invite a little softness into this area.
Bring your attention to your chest.
Notice the gentle expansion of your ribcage as you breathe in.
And the natural release as you breathe out.
Perhaps you can sense the steady rhythm of your heartbeat.
Or perhaps you simply notice the movement of your breathing.
Whatever you experience is perfectly okay.
Now move your awareness toward your upper back.
Notice the muscles between your shoulder blades and gradually bring your attention to your shoulders.
Our shoulders often carry so much of the stress and responsibilities of everyday life.
Sometimes without us even noticing.
Take a gentle breath in,
And as you breathe out,
Allow your shoulders to soften.
You don't have to carry everything in this moment.
For now.
You can simply rest.
Notice your upper arms.
Your elbows.
Your forearms.
See if you can sense their weight Allow your arms to rest naturally.
Bring your attention to your wrists.
Slowly move your hands.
Notice your palms.
The backs of your hands,
Each of your fingers.
These hands do so much for us throughout the day.
They help us create,
Connect,
Communicate,
And experience the world around us.
Take a moment to appreciate them.
Perhaps notice whether your hands feel warm or cool,
Heavy or light.
If you're holding any tension in your fingers.
Gently soften your grip and allow your hands to rest.
Notice the muscles.
Along the sides and back of your neck.
And see if you can allow them to soften.
Move your awareness toward your jaw.
Perhaps your teeth are pressed together.
If they are,
Gently allow a little space between them.
And relax your jaw.
Notice her cheeks.
Your lips.
Your nose.
The area around your eyes.
Allow your eyelids to feel soft and comfortable and bring your attention to your forehead.
Bring your awareness to the top of your head.
Imagine a gentle wave of softness moving through your entire face and scalp.
There's nothing you need to figure out right now.
Nothing you need to solve.
Just this moment.
Just this breath.
Just this moment.
Just this breath.
Right now.
Right here.
Now let's expand our awareness to include the entire body.
From the tips of your toes.
All the way up to the top of your head.
Notice your body as one connected whole.
Resting.
Breathing.
Simply being.
Perhaps you feel a little more relaxed than when we began.
Perhaps she feel exactly the same.
That's also okay.
The purpose of this practice isn't to achieve a particular feeling.
It's simply to reconnect with ourselves.
To notice.
Collision.
To convene ourselves with a little more kindness.
Take one final slow breath in and gently breathe out.
Begin to notice the sounds around you.
The surface beneath you,
The space you're sitting or lying in.
If your eyes are closed,
Open them whenever you are ready.
As you return to the rest of your day.
Remember.
That you can reconnect with your body at any moment.
Even a few seconds of awareness can offer an opportunity to slow down and return to the present.
Thank you for sharing these moments with me.
Thank you for allowing me to be of service.
Namaste.
