Pause.

Every hair follicle,

You are practicing mindfulness.

You are honoring the sacred temple that is your body,

Or think of the act of eating,

Particularly the humble sandwich.

When you chew deliberately and slowly,

With intention,

Each bite becomes a meditation,

A sacred offering to your body and soul.

As you taste each morsel,

Be fully present.

Another profound expression of mindfulness lies in the garden of your words and reactions.

Before responding to someone,

Pause.

Take a breath.

See your thoughts as clouds passing through the sky.

What will be the ripple?

Will it bring kindness,

Understanding,

Peace,

Or regret?

In that gentle pause,

You embody a divine restraint,

An act of love towards yourself and others.

In choosing heightening awareness over reaction,

And as we extend this principle further,

Consider the metaphor of restraint applied to our choices.

Particularly in the realm of desire and impulse.

When you find yourself online shopping,

For instance,

Refrain from impulsively clicking purchase.

Instead,

Place the item in your cart,

Then take a step back.

Return with a calm heart after hours,

Then days,

And again after a week.

If your longing remains true,

Then perhaps the gift is meant for you.

This sacred pause invites discernment,

Transforming impulse into conscious loving choice.
