A mindful evening meditation can be a wonderful way to wind down and relax after a busy day.
Remember that the key to a successful evening meditation is to approach it with an open mind and a gentle attitude towards yourself.
If your mind wanders,
Simply acknowledge the distraction and gently guide your focus back to the present moment.
With practice,
You'll find that evening meditation becomes an integral part of your bedtime routine,
Helping you to relax and unwind after a long day.
Let's begin.
Choose a quiet and comfortable space where you won't be disturbed.
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
Take a few moments to settle into your chosen position,
Allow your body to relax,
Releasing any tension you may be holding,
And dropping those shoulders.
Begin by bringing your awareness to your breath.
Notice the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves your body.
You can focus on the rise and fall of your chest or the sensation of air passing through your nostrils.
Slowly scan your body from head to toe,
Noticing any areas of tension or discomfort.
With each exhale imagine releasing that tension,
Allowing that part of the body to relax.
Now take a few moments to reflect on your day.
Notice any thoughts or emotions that arise,
But try not to dwell on them or judge them.
Instead,
Acknowledge them and then let them go,
Bringing your focus back to your breath.
Take a moment to cultivate feelings of gratitude.
Think about three things from the day that you are grateful for,
No matter how small they may seem.
Visualise yourself in a peaceful and serene place.
It could be a beach at sunset,
A quiet forest glade,
Or a cosy cabin in the mountains.
Imagine yourself surrounded by warmth and tranquillity.
Repeat a few positive affirmations to yourself.
These could be simple statements such as,
I am calm and at peace,
Or I am grateful for this moment of relaxation.
When you feel ready,
Slowly bring your awareness back to your surroundings.
Take a few deep breaths.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
When you are ready,
Gently open your eyes.
