Twas the nicht before Christmas,

When all about the house,

The creature was stirring,

No even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the old lumber care,

In hopes that old Santy soon would be there.

The bairns were nestled,

Aw-snuggin' cosy,

Where dreaming of sugar-plums felt like a bosie,

In maw on her heedscarf,

In ama cap,

Had just settled doon for a lang winter's nap.

When oot oon the lawn I heard such a clatter,

I jumped from my bed to see what was the matter.

A wa tae the windy I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The lick tae the boon oor the snow on the ground,

Gave a bonnie wee go tae objects a round.

When whit to ma wonder an een should appear,

But a tae wee sleigh in eit tae re reindeer,

We a beamin' o' driver,

Sae jaunty and quick,

A noo and a jiffy it must be,

Saint Nick.

Mere fleetin' an eagle,

Sae reindeer set doon,

And he cawed oot their names tae a jolly wee tune.

Noo dasher,

Noo dancer,

Noo prancer,

An' vixen on comets,

On cupid,

On doner,

An' blitzen tae the top oe the porch,

Tae the top oe the wall,

Noo dash a wa,

Dash a wa,

Dash a wa,

Aw.

As dry lee use it afore the wooshy wind fly,

When he meet wi an obstacle,

Moot to the sky.

Sae up tae the hoostap the corswers flew aw,

Wi the sleigh full oe toys an ole Santy an aw.

An then in a twinklin' I heard on the roof,

The prancin' an pawin' oe each clompy hoof,

As I drew in my head an wis turnin' a round,

Doin' the lums Santy Clared in wi a boond.

He was dressed aw an fur,

Fae his head tae his foot,

An' his clays were aw tarnished wi ashes an suit.

A bundle oe toys he had flung on his back,

An' he deet like a peddler just opening his pack.

Ae zeen wer pure twinkly,

His dimples wer merry,

Ae his cheeks were aw rosy an' his neb like a cherry,

Ae his dro wee mouth was bow-like aw,

An' a fluff on his chin was as white as the snaw.

The stump oe a pipe he held tae his teeth,

An' the smoke it gathered round his head like a wreath.

He had a broad coopin' an aw wee round belly,

That shook when he laughed like a bowl full oe jelly.

He was tubby an' pluffy an aw rick jolly oe de elf,

An' aw roared wi a saw him in spite oe my cell.

A wank ae zeen an aw jink ae his head,

Soon let me ken,

I had nothing to dreid.

He did ne blether wout ae stryk tae work,

An' stuffed all the stockings an' had spun wi a jerk.

An' lay an' his finger aside oe his hooter,

An' gie an' a nod up the lummy scootard.

He jumped on his sleigh tae his gank ee the whistle,

An' aw they aw flew like they do nae a thistle.

But I heard him call back as he wist oot a sickt,

Happy Christmas tae yaw an' tae yaw a good nicht.
