Hello,
This is Kerry and I'd like for you to get really relaxed and comfortable in that bed.
I'm sure you have had a very busy day.
Now it's time to just relax,
To just slow down like a snail and to just listen to this story because I'm going to read you a story or tell you a story about Robbie the raccoon and he is going to have a little baby sister.
So let me begin.
Robbie the raccoon woke up,
He jumped out of bed and he thought to himself,
This must be the big day.
So he decided to scamper over to the kitchen.
Scamper scamper scamper.
Good morning,
Robbie,
Said his mommy.
Wow,
Mom,
Your tummy looks so huge.
Is the baby coming today?
Mommy put her hands on her round belly and beamed with joy.
Oh,
I hope so,
She said.
I want a baby brother,
Said Robbie the raccoon.
Well,
You know,
Sisters are great too,
Said his mommy.
But Robbie the raccoon wanted a baby brother so bad.
He daydreamed about it all day long.
He thought to himself,
I will teach my baby brother to climb trees.
I will teach him how to dig through the trash cans.
I will teach him how to explore at night and how we both can gaze up at the stars.
I will teach my little brother maybe how to play soccer.
Robbie called his father.
What?
I'm going to take your mom to the hospital now.
Stacey's mother will stay with you.
When Stacey's mother arrived,
Off went mommy and daddy in the taxi cab.
Well,
Robbie the raccoon just looked.
Oh,
I hope it will all be okay.
Stacey's mother tried to read a book to Robbie,
But Robbie couldn't sit still.
She tried to play ping pong with him,
But he just kept wondering when will the baby come home?
Finally,
Froggy got so tired that he fell asleep on the living room couch.
Robbie called his father.
What?
Come see the baby,
Daddy said.
Robbie the raccoon jumped up off the couch and he went into the baby's room as quickly as he could scamper.
Scamper,
Scamper,
Scamper.
It's a girl,
Said his daddy.
A girl?
Said Robbie the raccoon.
Yuck.
Well,
Her name is Rachel,
Said mommy.
But you can call her Rach for short if you like.
Cried Rachel.
Maybe she's hungry,
Thought Robbie the raccoon.
Hey,
Mom,
Let's make her something to eat.
Let's make her something that we can find in the trash can.
How about that?
Well,
Mommy was like,
Hmm,
Let's find her something healthier to eat.
Soon,
Rachel was sitting on mommy's lap,
Sucking on a big bottle of something mushy.
Let me feed her,
Asked Robbie.
I can take care of her all by myself.
I can,
I can.
Mommy looked over at Robbie the raccoon and said,
Not yet.
When her legs are all strong and she can stand up on her own,
Then,
Then you can take care of her.
Robbie felt so impatient.
He thought of all the things that he could do with her.
The trees they could climb.
The stars that they could see at night.
The swimming they could do.
And how they can explore the neighborhood and dig in the trash.
So many fun things to do,
He thought.
And then one day,
Stacey came over.
She wanted to see the baby.
Oh,
She is so cute,
Said Stacey.
Hey,
Let's play mommy and daddy.
No way,
Said Robbie the raccoon.
And he quickly ran away and tried to hide.
Then.
The next day,
Mommy said,
Robbie.
What?
Come see your sister.
She is walking.
Robbie was so excited.
Yippee.
Now I can take care of her.
Yes,
Robbie,
You can take care of her and we can take care of her together as a family.
Robbie the raccoon was so excited.
When his little sister began to cry.
He said,
I know,
I know.
You're hungry.
So he went over across the street and quickly grabbed something to eat.
Look at this.
And he showed her what he found.
He had found some blueberries.
He gave one to Rachel and she just gobbled it up.
Then she started to cry.
You want more?
Okay,
Come with me.
So he showed her where across the way was a bunch of big,
Beautiful blueberry bushes.
And so they sat underneath the bush,
Picking the berries,
Getting their little paws all purple.
Wow,
Cried Rachel.
Robbie sniffed her diaper.
Yikes.
He held his nose.
You stink Rachel.
So he laid his little sister down,
Tore off her diaper and put a new one on.
He felt so proud of himself that he was taking excellent care of his baby sister.
Robbie called his mom.
What?
Time to come inside.
I have a treat for you and your sister.
Robbie came inside the house.
He was so excited,
He lifted up his sister to show his mom.
Hey,
Look what I did.
I can change her diaper all by myself.
And then,
Plop,
The diaper fell off.
Robbie was so embarrassed that his little nose turned a bright red.
Dear,
Said mommy,
Let me help you.
It is okay.
And Robbie started to laugh.
Even his little sister Rachel laughed too.
That night,
Rachel couldn't go to sleep.
Waaah,
She cried,
Robbie,
She wailed.
So Robbie scampered into her room and he picked her up.
She misses her big brother,
Said Robbie.
Go to sleep,
Rachel.
So Robbie sat down in the rocking chair and just held his sweet little sister close to him.
He rocked her back and forth,
Back and forth,
Back and forth.
And he could see how Rachel's eyes got so heavy.
Her breathing slowed down.
And she yawned.
And Robbie just held her,
Looking at his baby sister as he rocked her back and forth,
Back and forth.
And soon Rachel slipped off into sweet dreams.
Just like you.
Night night.
