Might be surprised to know that half your life you've been an imposter.
At least half your life.
So why do we say this?
Because you have a drop of ego.
The ego and spirituality is called the false self.
And the false self is who you.
.
.
Think you should be instead of who you are.
So without making this too philosophical,
I'll explain.
There are three obstacles to you feeling completely whole,
Free and spontaneous.
The three obstacles are First of all,
This mind chatters,
And when the mind chatters,
It superimposes its chatter on the present moment.
So let's say you had a mom who always worried about no money.
You spend a lot of dollars and reserve a trip to the Grand Canyon to see the sunset at the Grand Canyon.
And as you're watching the Grand Canyon,
Your mother's money worries that you have inherited from 30 years ago come into the view of the Grand Canyon.
I'm not making up delicious stories.
These are stories I've heard from my students in the past 40 years.
So there was a guy.
Who would go to downtown New York and he would see sexual organs instead of human beings.
So that's a result of pornography.
It goes into the subconscious.
So you superimpose.
That on Fifth Avenue.
It's no different than your mom having money worries and then you go to the Grand Canyon and you're seeing money.
So understand,
These are three impediments that keep you from instant enlightenment.
One is mind chatter.
So you might ask,
Okay,
How do I get rid of mind chatter?
You don't.
If God had a washing machine,
God would say a washing machine is made for washing clothes.
So then you ask God,
Can I have an empty mind?
And he would say,
No,
The washing machine is made for washing clothes.
Your mind is made for chatter.
That's the end of discussion.
Don't expect to have zero activity in your mind.
That doesn't exist.
However,
There's a higher mind.
That can watch the lower mind.
When the higher mind watches the lower mind,
The lower mind goes quiet.
So,
Impediment number one.
Is the washing machine of the head.
This is constantly turning.
And it superimposes mind chatter.
On the Grand Canyon,
On a beautiful beach,
But adding some complication to that,
The chatter in your mind is made up of echoes from the past.
So if they told you what kind of behavior is ladylike,
In 1978.
That echo is still coming to you now.
It's not your own Pois.
It's inherited recordings from the past.
So one impediment,
Chattering mind,
The washing machine of the mind.
Second impairment.
This is called the subconscious mind.
I mentioned this last time.
Subconscious mind is a reservoir.
All beliefs,
All perceptions,
All emotions,
All behaviors that you saw.
From the previous generation as you were growing up.
So I mentioned in the previous talk,
When you were born,
Your subconscious is clean.
You have no impressions.
And then you start to watch mom,
Dad,
You go to church,
You go to the mosque,
You watch a particular government in your country behave a certain way.
All of this gets recorded in your subconscious mind.
At this point,
As you're listening to this video,
85% of your entire life is being hijacked by your subconscious.
Why?
Because humans operate on habits.
All of your habits are in the subconscious mind.
The way you pick up your spoon,
The way you say hi to people,
All of that.
It'd be interesting to know when your meditation gets deep,
You become habitless.
So I went to Fairfield,
Iowa,
Maharishi University for two years,
Seven hours of meditation a day.
What happened,
I started losing habits.
Because the mind becomes Teflon.
Nothing sticks to it.
If you have strawberry jams two days in a row,
The taste of strawberry jam doesn't stick to a meditative mind.
It can have goat cheese on the third day.
Nothing sticks to a meditative mind.
I call it the Teflon mine.
That gives you huge amounts of power because you're living with 9 billion people.
Most of them are robots being hijacked.
By a subconscious mind,
Which is a habit mind.
All of the foreign languages you learned,
You learned through the subconscious mind.
It wants repetition.
If you have a good tennis stroke that's in the subconscious mind.
If you get angry at your wife because your dad used to be an angry colonel,
You think you're angry,
But that's the imposter.
You're not angry.
You're copying anger from your military debt.
I had a student who would suddenly scream.
He would say,
Why did you just scream?
And then finally he said,
Oh,
My father used to scream.
He wasn't really angry.
This sounds comical now,
But it's happening.
Throughout the streets.
Look at people on the sidewalks.
They're programmed.
Everybody's programmed.
So two impediments.
Chattering mind,
Subconscious mind,
It's the reservoir of all beliefs,
All habits,
All perceptions,
Your sexuality,
Your sensuality,
What you believe of God,
How deserving you feel.
All of that.
Like each of you has a thermostat inside you.
I call it the joy thermostat.
If we do something right now that exceeds your tolerance,
Of your joy thermostat,
You will start to feel a lot of pressure.
So like in the coming full circle self-transformation course,
Sometimes we start to get rid of somebody's lack of self-deservedness.
And then suddenly they strike a business deal for $30,
000.
It happens that the father used to be a tractor driver who never made more than $1,
200 a month.
These grown-up kids have a lot of guilt when they suddenly make a lot of money because the thermostat is set at the level of $1,
200 a month.
Then the third impediment,
Third impediment is called EGO.
Ego is completely connected to the other two sisters.
What do I mean?
If you don't have mind chatter,
You don't have an ego.
If I were to do something to temporarily make the mind go silent,
I wouldn't feel like a business officer.
All my memories would be lost.
I wouldn't identify myself as an Iranian.
I wouldn't identify myself as my age.
Very simple to get rid of ego.
Be aware of two inhalations and two exhalations.
This is the physical reminder.
Whenever you touch your fingertips,
It's a reminder to breathe.
If you merge with two breaths,
Suddenly,
That entire identity of I was born in Maryland.
You know,
Robert was one of my classmates in high school.
I went to University of Virginia,
Studied law.
All of that is gone when you merge with the breath.
So what I'm saying is this imposter called the ego relies on thoughts.
If you lose thought,
You lose the name Rochelle,
All the memories.
Plus everything you learnt that you should be.
Like,
Who's a nice Christian girl?
That's programming,
Just like the Muslim guy and the Jewish lady.
It's all programming.
So if you want to know one definition of enlightenment.
It is a mind that has no program.
You wake up every day,
There are no shoulds.
You could go to the State Department and and work at your job.
But you're not being operated by shoulds.
That doesn't mean you break the law.
The shoulds are usually internal.
Should I be afraid of my boss?
That's internal stuff.
Most people are driven by internal rules.
Like there was a lady who had never hugged her daughter.
She had big problems doing this.
Because her mother had never hugged her.
So her issue,
Her source of sadness,
Was she couldn't embrace.
These are the types of things that are torturing people.
The third sister called ego.
This is not really you.
In other words,
Your name,
They gave you your name.
Your passport,
They gave you your passport.
Based on where you were born.
Your religion,
Typically you inherited your religion.
And then let's say you went to high school.
If you were a guy,
You saw a bunch of guys with muscles.
So then,
There was an unspoken rule.
If you don't have the same kind of body,
Then you're a loser in class.
So then that gets drilled into your mind.
All of this accumulates into one package called ego.
So this is why I'm calling you an imposter.
Sometimes you're believing.
The entire programming that you received.
By the time you're seven years old,
The fundamental programming of your subconscious mind is complete.
In other words,
What you think of sex,
What you think of God,
What you think of money,
How deserving you feel,
How lovable you think you are.
By the time you're seven,
Most of the foundations of that.
.
.
Are already established.
One of these days,
I want you to be free.
Of programming.
How do you free yourself of programming?
Very simple.
As you're merging with two inhalations,
Two exhalations,
Part of you dies.
