This guided compassion meditation explores how you can turn toward another being’s suffering while staying connected to a steady place within yourself. Inspired by Tonglen, the practice uses breath and visualization to acknowledge suffering without asking you to hold onto it. You begin by connecting with a clear, brilliant light at the heart, allowing it to become a source of steadiness. From this place, you bring one person or group to mind and gently meet their pain or sorrow. On the inhale, you imagine the darkness associated with suffering being transformed into brilliant light. On the exhale, that light is offered outward as compassion, love, lightness, and energy. You can begin with one manageable experience and allow compassion to expand only as it feels appropriate. This recording comes from a live Journey You Own Meditation Gathering, so natural pauses and gentle references to shared practice may be present.
