This is a short guided practice for children, loosely based on metta or loving kindess meditation. This combines relaxing deep breaths with kind wishes for people, near and far. It helps children (and adults) relax and connect with their compassion.

Close your eyes and imagine you're walking up a green grassy hill.

The sun feels warm on your shoulders,

The birds are singing in the trees,

And you are walking through the grass to the top of the hill.

When you get to the top,

Stop to catch your breath.

With your eyes still closed,

Imagine that you see a huge magical dandelion in front of you.

Come down slowly to pick it,

And carefully lift it up to your face so you don't lose any of its magical white floaty seeds.

We're going to make three wishes by slowly and carefully blowing on it three times.

For the first wish,

Make a wish for yourself.

Breathe in a nice big breath,

Think of your very special wish,

And blow a long,

Slow breath onto it while you make your wish.

The second wish is going to be for someone you know.

Take a big,

Deep breath,

Hold it in while you think of your wish,

And then blow a long,

Slow breath onto the dandelion while you make a wish for someone you know.

The last wish is for the whole world.

It's going to take an extra large breath.

Breathe in as deep as you can.

Think of your wish for the entire world,

And blow the last seeds from the dandelion.

Blow them so far that they spread their magic over the whole planet.

Now slowly open your eyes and smile at everyone around you,

Imagining all of their wishes coming true.
