Hello and welcome to this Reiki-infused mind-body medicine meditation.
This meditation is for regulating your nervous system.
And transmuting energy.
The energy or emotion that may be underlying the symptom or diagnosis.
So just allow yourself to anchor into this space here together.
Start to deepen the breath.
Start to slow down.
Start to feel the body under you and behind you.
I release any energy that is not mine to carry.
I am me and only me.
I am connected to source.
I am in my body.
I am connected to my higher self.
Grounded into the earth.
Softening and breathing,
Collecting your energy here.
The first part of this meditation,
I'm going to take you through some body-based tools to help you feel more regulated,
Safer,
Present,
Calm,
Capable,
Here and now.
I remember when one of my nervous system teachers said,
Regulating your nervous system isn't necessarily about calming yourself down.
It can be.
But it's about finding what will bring relief in the moment.
I love that word,
Relief,
Because Sometimes meditating or deep breathing,
That vision of calm is what we need.
But sometimes,
Like we're gonna do today,
Feeling a feeling move through the body,
Going towards a sadness or whatever it may be will bring relief.
Or shaking the body will bring relief.
And we just get better and better at tuning in to,
You know,
What's going on here in my body and what can bring me relief.
So understanding that approach,
Just breathe and soften and allowing this to be.
Gentle,
Explorative,
Curious,
Open,
Soft,
Easy.
And we'll begin with something very simple.
It's just a rock or a sway.
If you're sitting up,
Just that gentle rocking back and forth,
Nice and slow.
Or swaying side to side,
Nice and slow.
And if you're laying down,
Maybe you just kind of windshield wiper your feet if you can do that just gently from side to side.
Or wiggling the fingers gently if you have access to that.
This is a very soothing thing.
You know,
A lot of these nervous system regulating tools,
What they have in common,
In my own opinion,
Is self-love.
It's something that feels good and nurturing to the body that you are doing for yourself to bring relief.
To remind your brain,
I'm here and now and I'm okay.
It's not your fault if you're dysregulated.
It's also normal to go into states of dysregulation as the body navigates life and stress.
It's just the longer stuck states that we are working with.
Being able to be fluid and move in and out of different states.
So you can allow this sway or rock to continue or you can let yourself be still.
And next,
We're going to help our body feel safe in the here and now by just noticing the pressure and the weight of your body on the surface.
Can sound simple but often we aren't even aware of our pressure and weight and so we're kind of up in our head not in our body.
And when we're in our body,
Our body feels safer because it says,
Oh,
They're here.
They're going to be aware of my needs.
My boundaries or whatever it is.
So just kind of really notice.
This support under you and let the weight and pressure of your body,
You don't have to do anything.
You're just noticing the weight and pressure.
And you're allowing the floor,
The chair,
The bed to hold the weight and pressure.
And just breathe here a couple of breaths.
Nice.
And next we're going to,
If you have the ability to do so,
Cross your arms over your chest like a mummy in a tomb.
Crisscrossed and We're going to do a tapping that eases anxiety.
So we're going to alternate tapping.
We're just going to tap our right hand so gently,
Just moving at the wrist.
So tapping the palm of the right hand right around the front of the shoulder and then tapping the left.
Almost like you're tapping to a beat of a song.
It's nice,
Rhythmic,
Slow,
Gentle tapping.
Arms are crossed and just the wrists are moving.
Everything else is still and relaxed,
Right?
And just having a few breaths,
This balances the right and left hemisphere of the brain.
Good.
And as we're doing these,
You might notice you've kind of yawned or taken a deeper breath or sighed.
It's very subtle,
But this is the relief.
This is the relief we're looking for.
So let that go.
Let that settle.
Now we're going to do one of my favorite things.
You can do this when you're out and about or you're working.
Our amygdala is responsible for fight or flight and the exercise that we're about to do calms that part of our brain.
Because it makes us aware,
Wait a minute,
We're in the present,
Because we're going to focus our attention on the present.
And when we're aware of that,
Then the amygdala,
Which is the part of our brain responsible for perceived threat,
It can calm down because it can say,
Wait a minute,
She's aware,
He's aware,
There's no threat right now,
I can relax.
Bringing relief.
So it's so simple,
But very profound.
It's called the 5-4-3-2-1.
I'm going to give it to you in a certain order,
But you can do this.
You can pick a sense you want to use first and a sense you want to use last and do it however you wish or follow along with me.
So five,
We are going to notice.
Why don't you just gently pat your eyes open if they're closed.
We're just gonna gently notice five things we see.
Very slowly,
It's almost like we're letting our eyes land on things.
And we're going to take it in.
And it's really helpful if,
As we see these five things,
We kind of name it in our mind with some textures,
Because that gives our brain a chance to rest on the things that are in the present.
That's why this is relaxing the brain.
So like for me,
I'm looking at a hat that has an embroidered A,
So I might say,
You know,
Three dimensional,
Navy blue,
Puffy,
Embroidered A.
Good.
And then we're going to go on to four other things.
So just take your time to notice gently,
Slowly taking in five things around you.
You'll notice your body might have taken a deep breath.
Sighing,
Swallowing,
Emotion,
These are all releases and sometimes it takes us a while so it's okay if you're not having that experience yet.
So that was five,
Four,
We're gonna notice four things that we sense in our body so that we feel.
This could be the way our clothes are on our body.
This could be the temperature.
This could be,
Oh,
I feel my food digesting from my soup.
It could be anything.
I feel my hair on my shoulder.
So again,
Really slowly and mindfully.
Like if this was an exercise in gentleness and ease and efflaziness,
Right?
So we're going to notice four things that we sense or feel.
Three things that we hear.
So again,
Really effortlessly,
Just kind of let it down on you.
I wonder what three sounds are around me.
Just listen and make them out slowly,
One by one.
You could interchange these last two depending on if you taste more things or smell more things,
But we'll just go with taste here.
What do you taste?
Maybe your toothpaste or your mouth or the last sip of something or bite of something you had.
It's okay even if we don't taste something because we're just bringing our mind into that curiosity of,
I wonder what taste is here?
And then lastly,
One thing I smell and maybe you have a cologne or essential oil on or deodorant or your hair or something in front of you and you want to pull that to your face or you just kind of See if you notice something in the air.
Good.
5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Letting that amygdala find relief.
It goes right here,
Right now.
We showed our brain.
Good,
And then the last exercise we're gonna do is three breaths.
We'll do three to five.
But we're going to breathe 70% into our belly,
Expanding it like a balloon.
Taking the last 30% up into the chest,
Expanding that.
And then allowing the exhale to be longer and slower than the inhale,
Signaling safety to the brain.
Okay,
So we're going to breathe into the belly,
70%.
Chest 30.
Long,
Slow exhale.
Two to five more of those,
Inhale.
Inhale.
Exhale.
If you feel more on your own,
Take it nice and easy.
In 70,
In 30,
Exhale long,
Slow.
Good,
And just let that all relax and integrate.
And I want you just to see if,
From when we started,
You just feel a little different.
And we're not trying to make ourselves feel different.
We're just kind of noticing what's here.
Like for me,
My body took a deeper breath and my thoughts are quieter.
Could be big,
Could be little,
And maybe you're even feeling an emotion which is regulating because your nervous system relaxed enough for you to feel.
So again,
Remember,
We're not looking for total bliss and peace,
We're looking for what is the most relieving thing in the moment.
Good,
So just letting that rest,
Breathing and softening the body,
Knowing that you can pick one of those tools or all of them whenever you need.
As we move now into Second part of this meditation,
Which is transmuting the energy underneath of our symptoms.
So when our nervous system is regulated and out of the way,
We begin to notice more of what is existing in our body.
Now,
Not always,
But physical symptoms can be caused by stuck energy,
Blocked emotions.
Limiting beliefs.
That we're having over and over and over again.
So we don't need to know the thoughts or beliefs.
We don't need to know the root cause right now.
All we're doing.
Is bringing our attention and awareness to a symptom.
Or the symptoms as a whole.
Of what we're going through.
And we're just going to bring our awareness to wherever we notice that in our body.
When we're young,
This does not feel safe to do.
And as an adult,
We go very slowly.
We can digest a little baby bit at a time.
And we know that everything we're feeling is energy.
Sensation and we can handle a feeling.
It feels really icky sometimes.
And the more that we just allow this to move through us as energy,
As emotion,
We don't need to make sense of it.
You know,
Our wisdom can tell us what it means to tell us and we can have emotion moving through the body.
And why we try to make sense of it and say,
I shouldn't feel this way,
And I'm weak,
And I'm too much.
It gets sticky.
So what we're doing,
There's many ways to transmute energy,
But one of the ways I've found that is the quickest and easiest is self-love.
Connection.
Presence.
Unconditional love.
So we run from symptoms.
We don't want to feel them.
And our mind spins in loops because it's afraid and it's trying to find a fix.
And.
This meditation is for slowing down and being with ourselves intimately.
It can sound too good to be true.
It can sound like,
No,
This is no match for what I'm experiencing.
I have found on my journey,
Yes,
There's layers,
Yes,
There's different solutions for different things.
When we're experiencing something habitually,
If we sit with this symptom as if it's a little kid in us and we let it express itself safely,
It can release.
So the emotion or energy or blockage in our body releases.
Well,
Guess what?
The symptom can heal or a new solution for the symptom can come in.
Something so easy you never even thought of.
But we must meet ourselves in the deepest love where we are now.
In order for that energy to move through.
We'll run and chase and be a little bit outside of ourselves and no one sits us down and says,
Honey,
The solution isn't just being with yourself.
That's what you were looking for.
Deep,
Deep,
Deep devotional love.
Love can clear fear.
Love can release pain.
So let's practice this together and you can come back to this part of the meditation for any symptom that you're feeling.
The irony is the more that we try to get a symptom to go away,
I'm going to do this meditation so that it leaves,
So that I can control X,
Y,
And Z.
It lasts longer.
The more that we can come and say,
OK,
The byproduct of this level of love is a release of energy,
Is relief,
Is healing.
I'm gonna just focus on loving myself and see what happens.
This is going to feel new and weird and uncomfortable at first and just keep practicing.
I think the biggest thing I've learned with this practice is being genuine.
Rushing it,
Thinking about it.
Intellectualizing it.
Doesn't actually assist in transmuting,
Releasing,
Alchemizing,
Letting this energy disperse from the body.
Energy turns into physical,
That's why we're just working with the energy level of the physical.
Physical is denser than energy,
So when we do this,
It can take the physical some time to catch up to the energetic.
And that's normal.
Sometimes we have those quantum spontaneous recoveries.
Sometimes it takes time.
Good.
So just breathing and softening.
And I want you just to see where your attention goes to the part of you.
And again,
Maybe it's a symptom.
So that's the easiest thing,
The symptom that bothers you the most.
Can you bring your awareness there?
And if that's too much right now,
Maybe we start with a gentle symptom.
So where do you want to begin?
Good,
And then now that our Attention is there.
First we bring in presence,
Which just means full attention,
Full focus on this thing.
I'm not thinking about something else.
I am just here with present to.
And so we bring that,
You know,
Stomach ache or chest tension or backache,
Whatever it is that you're experiencing.
Burning,
Itching,
Whatever it is.
And you just allow.
A loving presence.
Just a spaciousness of awareness.
And you don't have to make it some big spiritual thing.
It's just present with,
Aware of,
Here with.
And as best as you can,
Practicing being tender towards this thing.
I know our brain says,
I hate this.
I can't stand this.
This sucks.
I don't want this.
Valid.
Of course.
Yes.
Yes,
Yes,
Yes.
So that's that's allowed.
And even if we can bring in tenderness for that,
Right,
The fact that,
Of course,
You feel this way,
Anyone would feel this way experiencing this hell.
When we wrap the pain in love,
Solutions come,
Healing comes,
Energy releases.
That's it right there.
That's it right there.
So holding this in awareness and now we're going to in presence and now we're going to bring this symptom deep connection.
So we're present and connected,
Meaning I feel your pain.
And this is where the genuine energy comes in,
Where we can kind of intellectualize it or graze the surface,
But like you are the best friend of this thing.
Like I am empathizing with you.
I feel it.
I hear you,
And I see it,
And I feel it.
I feel that pain.
So we're present,
We're breathing.
Make sure you notice if you grip or you stop breathing.
Soften the body and breathe.
It helps the energy move through.
We're not pushing anything.
We're holding a space for the energy.
The energy knows how to release.
GENUINELY This is not a permanent state.
I can do a little bit at a time.
My body just needs this love and presence and connection.
And then this thing wants to disperse,
Wants to release,
And then goodness comes in.
So just breathing with tenderness.
If you have had a pet in the past you were really connected to,
You're holding this energy like you were towards your pet.
Very kind,
Very gentle.
Very compassionate.
Like,
I understand.
This makes sense.
Of course you feel this way.
Genuine connection.
I'm here with you.
I feel it.
I'm present to it.
I'm taking this sacred time for you.
From the busyness of our day to let you have space to show me what's going on inside.
Connection,
Presence,
Love,
Unconditional love.
These higher states are what allows this lower state to release.
And again,
You may have had 1% out of 100 released today.
We don't need all 100 to go.
I don't even need to understand what that means.
The more we come with,
I feel you,
I'm here with you in this.
I'm breathing through the sensations in my body.
It releases over time,
Lightness will come.
How do you know it's releasing?
You feel a little lighter.
And you feel a little more relief.
And that relief could come in the form of tears.
Or you actually feel more angry because you've buried it and the relief is saying,
I've got to air out this sensation.
We do a little bit at a time.
You're in control.
The body knows what to do.
So we're just going to spend a little longer with this symptom,
Group of symptoms,
Diagnosis,
And just notice the sensation in the body that arises.
That's the underlying energy under the symptom and it sounds,
Again,
Too good to be true,
But holding it in the deepest.
Allowance,
Acceptance,
Love,
Connection.
Lets it release.
It's been waiting for your tenderness,
Your kindness,
Your care.
We needn't rush it away.
We say,
Take all my breath.
Give me all the time.
I give you all the time you need,
Buddy.
And breathe and soften around it.
And as you breathe in,
Soften.
Invite you to be gentle with yourself.
If things came up,
You can journal it out,
Dance it out,
Keep breathing.
Energy will ultimately release in its own time when we don't force it when we give it all the space This is a practice.
Be gentle,
Be consistent,
Show up for yourself,
And this will move mountains energetically,
Which will create a new physical manifestation in time.
So from time to time,
You can bring different symptoms or the symptom as a whole to this meditation or just to the transmuting energy part,
But it's nice to relax first to feel safer to allow these energies to move through.
And you can use it as needed when something feels sticky,
Just to give yourself that space to remember love,
Because you have the power in you to love yourself back home.
So whenever you're ready,
Just placing your awareness behind your eyes in your body.
Rocking,
Swaying,
Connecting under you.
Deep breath.
Stretching,
Wiggling.
Noticing the light and the shadows in the room.
Looking around softly.
Maybe your eye lands on one of the things from the 5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Just a little bit at a time.
A little more relief.
We can change.
I'll see you in the next meditation.
