Hello,
My name is Elena.
I am your meditation guide for today.
Thank you for joining me for an experience of you.
This meditation is all about being human.
Allow yourself to get into a relaxed position.
Allow your spine to be straight and relaxed.
If you are sitting,
Your feet gently placed on the floor,
Hands relaxed in your lap.
Take a deep inhale and a complete exhale.
Another deep inhale and a complete exhale.
We're now going to do a body scan.
During this exercise,
You're focused on just relaxing each part of your body as we shift focus from the top of your head down to your toes.
Starting at the top of your head,
You're going to scan down,
Relaxing your face,
Relaxing your jaw,
Relax your neck,
Shoulders,
Arms,
Your back.
Now relax your hips and your legs.
Relax your ankles and your toes.
Take a deep inhale and as you exhale,
Relax down deeper and let your body settle.
I'm now going to share with you a short poem and it will be followed by a practice for you to engage in,
To embrace being human.
In a space outside of time,
On the other side of the living,
There was a young soul,
Waiting to go to earth.
The young soul was next to an old soul and asked,
What will it be like to be human?
The old soul expanded and contracted,
Oh,
It will be so much more than I could ever describe.
Being human is like experiencing a peaceful ocean and a rough sea all in the same day.
There's a level of complexity and simplicity to each moment and experience.
There's sometimes a sense of urgency,
But then other times,
A pausing and I feel like I'm back here,
Outside of time.
There's moments when I feel intensity and moments of calmness.
There's a few experiences that really stand out.
The first time that you look at yourself in the mirror,
Study the details of your face,
The curve of your lips,
The furriness of your brow.
You explore your skin down to the feeling of rubbing your index finger and thumb together.
There's a smoothness,
But also a texture.
To eat a delicious piece of fruit,
To taste.
My favorite is the mango.
Some are tart,
But some are super sweet.
Drinking cool water,
Experiencing purification in an instant and being refreshed.
The pain of sickness and how sometimes that pain can be all-consuming.
The cloud of worry and how it's a cloud that sometimes feels unmovable.
The feeling of toes on dew-covered grass connecting to the earth,
The feeling of sweat rolling down your forehead,
The miraculous miracle of how your body cools itself.
Singing songs with other humans and feeling the harmony resonate in your body.
The feeling of getting a cut,
The sharpness of the pain,
The soreness of the skin.
Oh,
To be human.
It's an experience of everything all at once.
Pleasure,
Pain.
The young soul expands and contracts.
What is a song?
Oh,
A song is a collection of musical notes that sometimes has words.
Sometimes the song can simply be the sound of the wind.
It's an artistic expression.
You can use it to remember or reminisce about a moment.
So perhaps in a way,
Every day can be like a song.
In this moment,
Allow yourself to connect with the words that can write the lyrics of your song.
What is it like to be human for you?
In your mind,
Name out all of the things,
Great and small,
Pleasure and pain,
Everything that is a part of you feeling human.
Continue to explore each side of the spectrum of your life and name out all of the beautiful details that describe your human experience.
What does it feel like to be in your body?
What does it feel like to experience your day?
What does it feel like to be a human?
The pleasure and the pain,
All of it is a part of your song.
All of it is important and every moment of it is vital for your growth.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed about what is happening in the world or in your life,
Allow yourself to get grounded in what it feels like to be you.
You are your first home.
Your body is your soul's home.
Connect back.
Gently press your fingers together.
Return to the waking world.
Gently wiggle your toes.
Gently move your body in a way that is supportive for you,
Gracefully allowing yourself to return to the present moment.
Take a deep inhale and a complete exhale,
A deep inhale and a complete exhale.
Thank you for joining me for this meditation.
I truly hope you've been able to tap into a deeper appreciation for your humanity,
For the beautiful gift that your soul was given,
Your body,
And your experience as a human on this earth at this time.
I look forward to connecting with you again and until then,
Be well and breathe deep.
Namaste.
