Tonight, I am reading a short story I co-created called When the Snow Teaches Us to Rest. This story is loosely based on the strong feelings I experienced after a significant life event. Winter time is an opportunity to reflect on life's challenges. This audio is perfect for children or adults who want to relax, discover magic, or embark on an adventure before a great night's sleep.

When the snow teaches us to rest,

Winter does not arrive loudly.

It comes quietly,

Like a hand placed softly on the shoulder of the world,

Asking everyone to slow down.

Snow falls without urgency,

One flake at a time,

Each one small,

Deliberate,

Unrepeatable.

On the night our story begins,

The snow had already been falling for hours.

Not the heavy kind that demands attention,

But the gentle kind that seems to drift more than fall,

As if the sky itself were breathing out slowly.

The ground below was transformed,

Familiar shapes softened,

Edges blurred,

Noise quieted.

Even the air felt calmer,

As though winter had wrapped the world in a thick white blanket and whispered,

It's okay to rest now.

Inside a warm house,

A single lamp glowed,

Outside everything shimmered.

Winter has a way of doing this,

Of turning the ordinary into something sacred.

For many people,

Winter arrives during difficult seasons of life,

Times when answers feel far away,

When progress feels stalled,

When the world seems uncertain and heavy.

And yet,

Winter is not a mistake,

It is not an interruption,

It is a pause.

In nature,

Winter is not failure,

It is preparation.

Beneath the frozen ground,

Roots remain alive,

Seeds rest patiently in the soil,

Gathering strength in the dark.

Trees that appear bare are conserving energy,

Holding their breath,

Waiting for the right moment to begin again.

The stillness is not emptiness,

It is fullness held quietly.

Snowflakes fall one by one,

Each uniquely shaped,

Each carrying its own quiet story.

They don't rush,

They don't compete,

They simply arrive,

Exactly as they are,

And together they transform everything they touch.

Winter reminds us that it is okay to be still,

That it is okay not to have everything figured out,

That it is okay to pause without guilt.

When times are rough,

Winter invites us inward,

Not away from the world,

But deeper into ourselves.

It asks us to find warmth where warmth truly lives,

Not in constant motion or productivity,

But in presence,

In breath,

In kindness,

In connection.

A shared cup of tea,

A quiet conversation,

A message sent or received at just the right time.

These are the small fires we build to keep one another warm.

Even on the coldest nights,

Warmth exists.

It lives in community,

In friendship,

In shared laughter that echoes softly through winter air,

In the simple comfort of knowing you are not alone.

Snow reflects light in surprising ways.

Even under a dark sky,

It glows faintly,

Holding onto whatever light it can find.

It reminds us that even during our darkest seasons,

Light does not disappear.

It simply becomes more subtle.

Winter does not demand cheerfulness.

It offers peace instead.

It allows endings to happen gently.

Leaves fall so that branches can breathe.

Days shorten so nights can grow deeper and more restorative.

Old chapters close quietly,

Without ceremony,

Making room for what comes next.

Endings are not something to fear.

They are necessary.

Without winter,

There would be no spring.

Without rest,

There would be no renewal.

Without stillness,

Growth would have nowhere to begin.

Snow continues to fall,

Settling into every corner of the landscape,

Reminding the world to soften,

To release,

To trust the cycle.

As you listen now,

Imagine snow falling around you.

Not cold,

Not heavy,

But peaceful.

Imagine each snowflake carrying away something you no longer need to hold.

A worry,

A tension,

A lingering thought.

Let them drift down and rest.

Feel the warmth that exists inside you.

It has always been there.

A steady glow that does not depend on the season.

A warmth built from resilience.

From love given and received.

From moments you survived and moments you cherished.

Winter is not asking you to be strong.

It is asking you to be gentle.

To allow yourself to rest without judgment.

To honor where you are right now.

To trust that beneath the surface,

Something new is already forming.

The snow will melt when it's time.

The ground will warm.

The seeds will stir.

Spring will not arrive because we force it,

But because winter did its quiet work.

For now there is peace in this moment.

Peace in the stillness.

Peace in the soft hush of snowfall.

Let yourself rest here.

Let yourself be held by the quiet.

Like the earth beneath the snow,

You are preparing.

Whether you realize it or not.

And when the time comes to begin again,

You will.

For now,

It is enough to rest.

And that is the end of our story this evening.

Until next time.

Sweet dreams.

Thank you for this beautiful story, this winter, stronger than in many years here in our part of Sweden, very much invites this deep rest 🙏⛄️
