And over the next few minutes I'm going to repeat a word to you I'm going to repeat it five times and on the fifth time that I say that word I'd like you to allow your imagination to take you to a special relaxing place where you can feel completely at peace The word I'm going to use is peace.
I wonder if you know what that feels like?

Just imagine that you're in your bed.
And about to drift off into a pleasant drowsy sleep.
Peace.
While I'm talking to you,
I'm going to ask you to imagine various things.
Some people find it easy to imagine the things.
Other people find it more difficult.
And it doesn't really matter whether you're able to imagine the things or not.
All that matters is for you to have a nice comfortable feeling.
Peace.
There's no need to concentrate too hard on what I'm saying.
Listen to the sound of my voice rather than to the words.
And just let the words flow over you.
And you will probably find that you're aware of everything that I'm saying to you.
But if you do find that your mind is wandering and you think you may have missed part of it,
That's fine.
That's just a sign that you're becoming more peaceful.
Peace.
You'll find that you're still aware of all the sounds around you.
Inside and outside the room.
If anything you'll find your sense of hearing is more acute than normal.
But as we go through the session,
You'll find you become more and more aware just of the sound of my voice.
Peace.
Perfect peace.
Why don't you just let your imagination take you away to a special place where you can really relax.
Just think about one particular place.
And in your imagination allow yourself to be there for a few moments.
See yourself as if you're looking at yourself in a film.
Enjoying being at that special place.
Then just step inside yourself and immediately feel what it's like to be there.
What does it feel like?
What do you see there?
What sounds do you hear?
Allow yourself to be there for a few moments.
And just enjoy this special relaxing place.
You can take yourself there anytime you want to.
Just thinking about that word.
Peace.
Just saying it to yourself and then imagining this special place in your mind.
And as you continue to relax there with your eyes closed You are aware that the room around you is becoming darker.
There's a darkness descending upon the room but it's a special warm and welcoming darkness.
A darkness that surrounds you on every side.
And in that darkness,
You're aware of one tiny pinprick of white light.
It's like one tiny star in the darkness.
And as you look at that one tiny point of light,
It relaxes you and keeps you calm.
And in a moment or two,
I'm going to count down from 10 down to zero.
And as I count down,
I'd like you to imagine that you're stepping down a staircase.
But this is a very special staircase.
That leads down to peacefulness,
Calmness and tranquility with each step you take you feel more calm and relaxed.
And I'd like you to really try and see yourself stepping down that staircase.
And experiencing that nice calm and relaxed feeling with every step that you take Now this staircase can be anywhere in your mind.
A beautiful staircase leading down into a garden.
Or perhaps into the countryside.
Or even a beach.
Just let your imagination guide you.
And decide on one particular place where you're about to begin stepping down.
