Hello and welcome,
Tender hearts of Insight Timer.
Grief is often misunderstood.
We are taught to think of it as something broken inside us,
Something to fix or move past or tidy up quickly.
But grief is not a problem.
Grief,
I would offer,
Is more like a garden.
When something meaningful ends,
A relationship,
A life,
A chapter,
The soil of your heart is turned over.
And when soil is turned over,
Things appear.
Memories,
Love,
Regret,
Moments you wish had gone differently.
In a garden,
This wouldn't be seen as wrong.
It would be the beginning of something growing.
But many of us were never taught how to sit in this kind of garden.
So we rush.
We avoid.
We try to make it look neat again.
Grief asks for something different.
It asks you to pause,
To notice what is here.
Not to fix it,
Not to force it to grow differently,
Just to witness it.
So right now,
Gently bring your attention inward.
Ask yourself,
What is growing in my grief today?
There is no right answer,
Only what is true for you.
For now,
Let that be enough.
