A Yoga Adventure Through Space,

Written by Robin Snow,

Illustrated by Lynn Stevens.

Suggested items to bring along on your outer space adventure.

A blanket,

A pillow,

A stuffed animal or two,

And a friend or parent,

If you have one handy.

Let's go to outer space.

First,

We need our space gear.

Reach your hands up for upward salute pose.

Turn your head side to side to tighten your helmet.

Don't forget to zip up your space suit,

Toes to nose.

Lift up one leg at a time.

Open your arms wide.

Slide one sleeve on at a time.

And zip up your space suit.

Put on one boot at a time.

We're almost there.

Boots and gloves last.

What color is your space suit?

First stop,

The moon.

Get in your spaceship.

Five,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Blast off.

Stretch up high and wave to the stars.

Hang down low and twinkle,

Twinkle your toes.

Feet jump back into your spaceship.

Belly on the ground.

Ride your spaceship around.

Look up at the moon.

Now back at the earth.

Feet jump up out of your spaceship.

Hang down low and sweep the moon dust away from your toes.

Stretch up high.

Wave to the stars.

Now,

Moon pose.

There is zero gravity in space,

Which means we float everywhere we go.

Make yourself light to float even higher.

Now stand up and walk like an astronaut.

How do you think astronauts walk on the moon?

Do you see that meteor shower?

Sit on your bum with your legs in front.

Reach your hands up and then bring them down to your toes to watch the meteor shower fall.

We've been magically transported to our first planet,

Mercury.

Mercury has craters just like the moon.

Mercury is the smallest planet and is made of rocks.

Try child's pose to make your body look like a rock.

Next planet on our outer space adventure is Venus.

Venus spins in the opposite direction to all the other planets.

Give it a try.

Spin in one direction and then the other.

Venus is also the hottest planet as it is shaped by volcanoes.

Volcanoes start out calm.

As the lava starts to build and then they explode.

Reach your hands up watching your lava build and then explode spreading your arms and legs wide.

The volcano has fired us off to our next planet,

Mars.

NASA has said there is a real possibility of life forms on Mars.

Do you believe in aliens?

Try reverse tabletop and walk around like an alien.

We've crawled our alien bodies all the way to Jupiter.

The red dot on Jupiter is a giant storm.

Make the sound of the storm with your body by first snapping your fingers.

Then rub your hands.

Then pat your legs.

Then clap your hands.

Then stomp your feet.

Jupiter is covered in clouds.

Try bound angle pose to make your body look like a cloud.

Our cloud floated us to the next planet on our outer space adventure,

Saturn.

Saturn has thousands of rings and is known as a gas giant.

One friend in the middle,

Two on the sides.

Spin around your friend.

If you don't have a friend to practice with,

Use your stuffed animals to help.

The gases from Saturn blew us to our next planet,

Uranus.

Uranus is the coldest planet and sometimes it has diamond storms.

Test out the temperature on this planet by sitting in seated wind release pose.

Test it out by opening your arms really wide.

What do you wish would rain from the sky?

The magnetic pull from Neptune dragged us toward it.

There are supersonic winds on Neptune.

First,

Use a friend and move your hands as one like they are magnetic.

Then make a very loud wind sound when you breathe out.

Our outer space adventure is coming to an end and it's time to head back home to Earth.

First,

Let's play a game.

Move as if you are the different things on Earth and use the picture to help you.

Move like a tree,

A bird,

A cloud,

The sun,

The sky,

A mountain,

A flower,

The grass,

A dog,

A frog,

A rock,

And a fish.

It is important after a big outer space adventure to get some rest.

Imagine your hands are lit up with stars and watch the stars float up and down on your hands.

Sleep tight little astronauts.

Get cozy in your bed in corpse pose.

Meditation on the stars.

Imagine you are lying beneath the night sky.

You feel so relaxed and cozy as you pull your blanket up to your chin and cuddle your stuffy clothes.

The moon shines brightly above you.

The stars twinkle as if to say hello.

You feel so calm and so comfy gazing up at them.

Suddenly a shooting star dashes across the sky.

It's so beautiful.

Go ahead and make a wish for anything you want in the whole world.

Imagine how you feel as your biggest wish comes true,

Knowing deep down in your heart that it will come true in real life too.

The shooting star falls out of the sky and lands on your nose,

Turning your body into a star.

Still lying on your back,

Spread your arms and legs wide like a star.

Take a big breath in and fill your body with light.

Breathe out and twinkle your starlight for everyone to see by wiggling your fingers and your toes.

You are just as lucky.

You are just as luminous.

You are just as lovely as all the stars in the sky.

And as the sun rises in the sky,

We begin a new adventure.

Will you come along?

The end.
